2014 Like 50 LX hill climbing/speed mods?
« on: June 06, 2016, 05:32:14 AM »
New to board, new to Kymco, I bought the above with 270 miles on it for $1000. I put 23 miles on it today and I am very pleased with the ride. It does 10-12 mph up the 1.7 mile hill to my house. The back way it does a little better and that is the route I want to take 10 miles to work sometimes. Top speed level appears to be about 27 mph.

Where would I begin if I wanted to modify this scooter for better hill climbing and/or top speed?

Is the 50LX a 2 stroke...or the four?
I'm guessing a four...at those speeds?
Lots of good info here for your quest of more zip!

I have the 2013 Like 50 LX which is a 2 stroke when it come to hill climbing on either a 4 or 2 stroke the best mod is a BBK or Big Bore Kit, the nest best is a performance variator and stiffer contra/torque/rear pulley spring

Thank you, it is a two stroke. I am not sure I want to BBK it as I don't yet have an endorsement. I will look into the other two and this the type of advice I am looking for as the bike does everything well but go fast.

Thank you for the welcome Stig, and glad to meet a Like 50 LXer!

ahhh 2T easy to work on I love mine get an Aftermarket pipe you will need to retune your CVT and put a bigger jet in but an expansion pipe in place of the stock gave me my largest performance gain out of all my mods and I've done quite a few to my Like. If you go down to the Like 50 section you can see my posts also if you search in the technical section back a few months. Also in The Like section 245luigi and ParaIndiana have built very fast strong Likes so can look for their posts and Zombie posts are always good.

Since it's a 2 stroke, if 27mph is the top speed then it is for sure restricted somehow.

I don't know about the Like, but for the People on the newer scooters, the CDI isn't restricted, only the variator.

So probably the first thing you want to do is replace the variator boss with an unrestricted one.

While you are at it, for the hills, you'll want to put somewhat lighter roller weights. On my People, I went down from 8 gram to 6 gram weights and that helped a lot with the hills.

Those are both relatively cheap changes.  I'd recommend you do those first and see how you like it.  After that, if you want to still go faster, you'll want to get a performance exhaust. That gives the scooter quite a bit more kick, but costs quite a bit and you have to rejet the carb and may have to change rollers again, so it's quite a bit of work.

the variator, carb, and to a certain extent the exhaust is restricted on the Like is he unrestricts the variator her has to upjet the carb to match but the like doesn't likethose lite rollers that you use not for hills I stiffer contra spring and heavier rollers are the key for the Likes on hills. course the BBK or Exhaust are the real upgrades to do.
