USA Kymco super 9lc main bearing suggestions please
« on: June 09, 2016, 11:42:12 PM »
I have found my complete super 9 has bad main bearings. I have also come into possession of 2 other "parts" motors. Unfortunately 1 has a locked up crank and the other has bad main bearings as well.

I'm not impressed with the TPI bearings I found in the bottom end. Maybe it is the PO's faults; maybe the bearings; idk?

Who/where have you guys bought bearings for the bottom end? Any vendors in the US?

Thanks

Rich

Likewise, I wasn't super impressed with the OEM crank bearings, but decided probably OK for what I am doing.  High quality crank bearings don't have riveted steel ball retainers based upon my experience, buty better bearings cost more.  I haven't purchased crank bearings yet, but all you need is the size and should be able to get whatever you need with a little searching on the web.  I will probably buy OEM crank bearings when I do get some more.

Sorry, don't know what "PO's fault" means?  Cheers

The brgs are oddball sized id x od x width; 25x56x12 and 20x52x12. Typically od are in 5mm increments.

skf bb1-3096 and bb1-3055b are the correct bearings.
NTN sc05a97 and sc04a47

The bearings seem common place in the EU but I can't find a us dealer. I work with bearing vendors for industrial applications. I have placed requests with a few vendors/companies.

I hope to hear from them in the next couple days. Just have to wait at this point.

OK, PO is previous owner, I vote PO messed bearings up, probably ran with cheap oil, not enough oil?, my guess.  I don't see many complaints about OEM crank bearing failure, so think OEM bearings probably good.  Cheers

I know very little about bearings, so please bear with me.  I have seen bearings, replaced my People 50 2T crankshaft (same crank/ rod as S9 LC), reused old bearings.  Know one side larger than other, but can't remember which side larger bearing, seems like should be on variator side?

Did you actually measure bearings?  I am seeing different sizes.

I measured bearings and verified from several sources on the net.

as I recall variator is 25x56x12 and magneto is 20x52x12

Thanks for verifing size, best I can tell, you are correct.  I searched web some, best results were "kymco crankshaft bearings".  Found lots of suppliers, Kymco OEM and NTN, best price for set of NTN bearings and seals was ebay approx $42 shipped.  I would probably stay with OEM, NTN pics show same riveted ball retainers, so I don't see as being better, just my opinion.  However, OEM probably more expensive than NTN?, I am sure NTN would be excellent bearings.  Cheers

Where did you find 42 shipped? Are the ac and lc the same bearings?

Best I've found is 63
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Crankshaft-Main-Bearing-Kit-Kymco-People-50-2T-/151954041961?hash=item23612aac69:g:RMoAAOSwGotWnDWF&vxp=mtr

Kymco OEM brgs are ~54+ shipping. No seals.

Tomorrow I head south to pick up 1 more dead toy. A 07 Super 9 with supposedly a bad top end. We;ll see how this one works out.

I hope to end up with 2 complete bikes, 1  omplete spare engine and maybe a "stripped" bike for toying around.

I also found them here tonight

http://scootertuning.ca/en/order-confirmation.php?id_cart=63987&id_module=64&id_order=23060&key=81374c705b066e1647e82a793725a7d9

I will look at scooter assassins site but that item never popped up in my searches.

Thanks
