Though I read somewhere that one of us had converted the mirror LEDs to DRL, but cannot find it.
I had prepared last winter two relays to invert my mirror turn signals into DRL. Today I finally found to time to install them.
What I did is, cut the blue wire for the Right LEDs and connect the relay actuator to this blue wire and the green return wire.
Connected the relay switch to the LEDs and get 12 V from the glove compartment power socket.
Now the LEDs are lit by default and when signalling the relay breaks the power to the LEDs and dim them at the flashing rate. In effect the flash cycle has been reversed.
Next I went to do the same for the Left LEDs. Cut the orange wire and inserted the relay. Connected the other relay actuator wire to the green wire and the other relay switch wire to the same 12 V.
However the left relay is not working.
LEDs will light up, but nothing happens when engaging the Left turn switch. If I take out the relay and reconnect the LEDs all is working again. With the relay in place, I can give 12 V to the orange relay actuator wire and the LEDS will dim. Thus all seem to be wired correctly?
Does anyone have a Electrical schematic of the Downtown 300i? I'm stumped why Right is working, but Left is not. Love to know exactly how the Winker relay is wired into the whole setup.
P.s.
Seems like it'll not be too hard to add the dummy turn lights into real turn lights as well. All is wired including actual bulbs, except for the connectors to the front cowl.
