CDI Unit Messed It all Up
« on: June 08, 2010, 12:54:34 AM »
Alrite. I ordered this new CDI unit that supposed to be unrestricted. it just came in today. I went and replaced the old CDI unit and put everything back together. When i pushed the starter button it tried to start but didnt. then my whole electric system went out. when i turn the key i get no blinkers no horn nothing. it wont crank up or anything... i checked the fuse to see if maybe it had blown out but it was fine. Any ideas???

There has to be another fuse. I can't imagine it burning out the ign. switch. Maybe tho. Start at the battery, and follow the circuit to the switch, and so on, You can do the basics w/ a test light, but a DMM is better. To make it all easier I would remove all the plastics. You may have burnt the regulator, and it will be easier to trace it all out. There are service manuals in the general section under "links to service manuals". Now that I said it... I would test the regulator first

so really my best bet would be to remove all of the plastics to find any and all fuses?

UPDATE: alrite i found the second fuse and it was blown so i replaced it and tried it again. the new CDI unit blew the fuse again. So is it possible to put a stronger fuse in? like instead of 7A like an 8A or 9A? or would that not work? If not then i go back to using the old CDI

Nah, no good if it is blowing fuses and you increase the size of the fuse you will end up burning out your wiring, go back to the correct cdi.

..like i said before, the OEM cdi of the A125 is not restricted...

..whatever cdi you bought is not for your scoot...

..it would not be wise to continue trying to use it, as eventually you might fry more than just a fuse...

..kontera, there are other things that you can do to get more pep and speed out of your scoot, if that was what you're trying to do...
