Bitten by the TPS bug!

Hey Stig and all it seems I've been attacked by the dreaded Like TPS injection bug. While riding yesterday the scoot started to buck at around 30-35 mph. Shortly after the CELP light came on. When I pulled over the idle was fine but when starting out again it came back. At home I checked for codes and sure enough I got a 4 flash TPS error light. I called our Portland dealer and he is contacting Kymco for me. Bike runs OK above and below these speeds. Sound familiar Stig?

1.Make sure if the connector of Throttle position
sensor is connected correctly.
2.Check if the Throttle position sensor is adjusted

Is your scooter under warranty? Call your dealer to arrange a diagnotic tool hookup.

Yeah Trout I have checked connection and tried to reset throttle position to no avail. I contacted the dealer because the scoot MIGHT be covered under the emissions warranty. My dealer is about 50 miles away so I'll need to truck it there. If it is NOT covered I have a local shop which is qualified to fix it at my cost. I'll have to order the throttle body/ecu from Kymco.

Actually...as you might recall from my saga with the low speed cruise bucking - nothing worked.
Good idle...good full throttle ...easy start....yes??
A question. ..because from my reading on this issue on bike forums. ...does the bucking crop up at a cruising speed that you have ridden VERY VERY extensively?

I've wondered if I may have simply worn out the internal contacts of the tps by cruising for most of 4, 000 miles at a certain speed. Anyway. ...should not have happened.
Very clever to remember the  extended smog warranty which may be in play here!
My scooter was often still sort of usable. ...but parked it because I was so concerned that the bucking was damaging to the drive train.
When dealer proved to be no help....and I couldn't fix it with new parts....I bought a lovely new red FORZA! while sicking Kymco rep on them. (Yeah...that'll teach them!  :-))
Crossbolts Karl came through and saved the day.....and still enjoying my LIKE200I darn near every morning!  (after new throttle body under warranty)

Stig pretty well covered it but I want to emphasize the initialization should be done to see if that solves anything before anyone gets their fingers in it. Stig already covered the procedure so get busy!

Have not tried the initializing procedure yet but will do. After Stigs experience with this problem I think the fix is probably a new throttle body. It is true that the scoot idles and starts just fine and 45-55 mph is just ducky!

Well, that settles it - you're going to need one of these, a Flux Capacitor.


Remove the seat bucket and it is located right here, next to the coil...


Pull it straight towards Taiwan and then turn it, I forget, either left or right  - ONLY !

Well after doing some more research and talking to Kymco it appears that the problem with my scooter is not covered under the emissions warranty. So I'm going to order the throttle body assembly and install it myself. Does anyone know if these things come plug and play? It does not look too challenging a job to remove and replace. I tried the re-initializing process but the problem remains. As Stig found out once it happens only a new unit will work.

You should check ebay for a throttle body. Few folks parting out likes due to crashes w/low mileages.

Yeah I did a search on E-bay before ordering a new one. One guy is asking $230 for a used 2012 part. That is what I paid from Kymcopartsmonster!

TPS problem SOLVED! I got the new throttle body yesterday and installed today. My Like is now back to purring and I'm a happy guy.
