Like 200i verse Like 125
« on: July 25, 2016, 06:51:25 AM »
Hi all, new Like 125 rider.  Just wondering if anyone here has ridden both the 125 and the 200i as I am interested how they would compare to each other as there does not seem to be too much difference in power between them (6.9 vs 8.5 kw) but the 200i has fuel injection so does that make it run smoother?

Have not ridden both.....the 125 is not sold in the States. ....but the 125 is a very popular scooter in Asia and Europe.
They seem to love them.....see the Philippine LIKE CLUB site for pix and videos on youtube.
I think most 163cc LIKE's ("200i") have good throttle response. ..good idle....and nearly instant starts in all temperatures (3°F is my coldest start and ride so far....ran great)
"Running smoothness" is probably not really much different between these scooter engines.
The LIKE 125 has a very good reputation.
Can we see pictures of your LIKE in your country?
Ride it safely and enjoy

No worries,  will get some photos tomorrow as it is night now.  Now I know why there isn't a section for the 125 here.  :D

Hey Paul,
I have test ridden the Like 125, but then ordered and bought blindfolded (without testriding) the 200i.

The riding feeling/handling is exactely the same, also brake feeling. Also the carburator engine of the 125 works well, is responsive and seems not really much weaker than the 163cc engine. The big advantage of the 125 is the kickstart option in case of a dead battery. With the 200i you must always have a reliable battery and a working startermotor. There is no kickstart option on the 200i.

If you are riding just in town or not much out of town with higher speeds or more often as a single rider, the 125cc should be good enough.
The 200i gives you about 15-20km/h more Topspeed, which might be interesting for longer rides out of town on freeways or so. Also if you want to ride with socius more often.

I just bought the 200i, because I had the driving licence for it and I loved the idea of the fuel injection and I wanted to have some torque and speed reserves for riding out of town. Also the milage is a bit better than with the 125 carburator model. And the injection models start just fine and instantly always. The downside might be the throttlebody electronics and its reliability. But I had no issues with it so far for two years now.

So, if I had to choose again..., ...undecided, but I might get the 125 and maybe put in a 170cc bore kit.  ;D ;) :-X

So, greetings to the Ubuntu Land of Micheal Tellinger!  :)
Cheers,
Robo

Thank you for that reply, appreciated.  Not sure if you think I am from Sth Africa (Ubuntu Land of Micheal Tellinger) but I am an Aussie.   When I purchased my 125 there were no 200i models there but I have been finding the 125 has plenty of power for city traffic but was curious about the fuel injection.

Cheers, Paul.

i had 2 125s and test rode a 200i before buying the 2nd 125.
not worth those extra ccs and fi for the $$$.
the 125 is bullet proof and very reliable. uve got no electronics at all and no need of a battery to start.
id step up for a people instead of a like 200 if you want a little more..
but ive talked a lot of friens into like's 125 and everyone loves them.
u cant go wrong!!

whats the $ difference there between both?

Surprised that they didn't come out with one model, a 150 instead of two relatively close ones.

Think it has to do with the Euro regulations - on classes of scooter engine sizes. After 125cc's something (expensive/bad ?) happens.
The 125 is the big LIKE seller in Europe - but I guess you can order a 200i.
No EFI engine has kick start - although I think some Kymco info says my scooter does....also says it has side stand no-start lock-out. Doesn't.

A back up kick start would be cool - but --- so I bought a much more powerful YUASA battery and squoze (yeah, that's a word - look it up!) it into the battery box down there.

I ride at nearly 0 degrees Fahrenheit so I want assurance it will start when I'm ready to go home! When you ride with these guys - you gotta be ready when it's time to go ....

Torque spec comparison . . .

Kymco Like 200i (163cc) . . Torque: 2.8 ft/lbs @ 5500RPM

Sym Fiddle III 200i (169cc) . . Torque: 9.21 ft/lbs @ 5500 RPM

Yamaha SMAX (155cc, 4-valve, liquid-cooled) . . Torque: 10 ft/lbs @ 6000 RPM

For the most part here in the states under 50cc and you don't need a motorcycle license. I wish we had something more reasonable as the 125 rule like you have.

Oh, sorry Paul. For unknown reasons I must have overlooked and/or mixed up that.

Bottom´s up, R.

Not a problem :).  It's interesting to see what other countries regulations are.  In the state I live in you can ride a 50cc with a car licence but in others you need a motorcycle licence.  I do have a full motorcycle licence.
