j costa short evaluation
« on: August 03, 2016, 02:39:57 PM »
good afternoon all!

let me start by saying I have never evaluated anything in my life, so please bear with me!!
I had been looking at these for a while, should I, shouldn't I, I had read good and bad reviews, I did and I'm so glad I did!!

first thing I have to say is WOW!!
it has made a vast difference on initial take off, although the revs are higher it is so much smoother.
acceleration is faster, and always there, for instance, going into a corner and accelerating out, there is a moment when the old variator has to catch up so to speak, but with the j costa there is no wait, its already there!!
what is taking a while to get used to is the higher revs all of the time, I thought I would use far more fuel, but after running two tanks, mileage is down, but only marginally, only a couple of miles according to "fuelly", that has been mostly round town, no long runs as yet, but I can seriously live with that for the difference it makes to the scoot!!
when I ride I always have a grin on my face, when I ride now I have a big grin on my face!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D
if you are thinking of doing it, I would do it!!  ;D
cheers,
Don.

I've always wanted a review of the JCosta on the DT 300 or GTI 300. Thanks for the info! How was the top end speed??

Good for you, glad you're happy with your investment.
But a question: How is this different than a set of one size lighter Dr Pulleys for $45 ?
They too increase the revs across the board, from pull away to higher  speeds - only then the revs start to drop. The higher revs of the sliders make for smoother behavior at pull away or accelerating from a corner.
Curious.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Hello stig, In simple terms, I don't know!! Haha
I had the standard variator with 14g Dr Pulleys, when I first installed the pulleys, I was/ am very impressed,
But the J Costa is different again, I really don't have the technical knowledge or vocabulary to describe it.
It just feels better somehow, if that makes any sense!!??  :o :o :o
Agilebda, I have had it to 80mph, i ran out of road!! it was on a straight minor road, i will get her onto the motorway very soon and report back!
Cheers,
Don.

On the interstate, with the 14gr DR Pulley I could get to 92MPH. With the Givi windscreen now it seems to just barely hit 90 MPH.

Yeah...changing the variator is alot better than just changing the rollers. Can you imagine if we had the Dr Pulley variator and back clutch all working together as they are supposed to?

Paying for a quality clutch. You get what you pay for. Yeah should be a great combo. Thats what I am going to try. Front wheel may lift at takeoff!! ;)

Good evening all, just a quick update, got onto the motorway the other day, top speed was reduced to 86mph, not to good..... But the speed at which it got there was brilliant!! Never timed it, but it felt heluva lot quicker!!
Cheers,
Don.
