Decisions, Decisions Kymco Movie 150 or Super 8 150
« on: August 13, 2016, 07:49:52 PM »
So I want to purchase a new scooter...my local dealer has a few 2013 leftovers... a Super 8 150 and a Movie 150. I like the options on the Movie but since it's a discontinued scooter I'm afraid there aren't many accessories or performance upgrades. I could be wrong, so I came here to see what is up with the Movie...the super 8 is cool too but the 13 model has issues where I put my feet....not an open area for foot room... anyway....I'd post pictures but my files are too large...how do I resize them for this forum?. any guidance or input is appreciated...thanks...nice forum by the way

I meant Super 8 150...no such thing as a 250...

Hello Joebug, probably the biggest difference between these scooters is the engine. The Super 8 is a two valve design with  carb and 10.3 HP. The Movie 150 is a four valve design with carb and 13.5 HP. That extra power means more pulling torque for hills and higher cruising speed in traffic. The Movie also has front and rear disk brakes as opposed to disk/ drum for the Super8. There may be fewer performance bits for the Movie but it already has an extra 3HP! The other specs that might figure in your decision is the tire size. The Super 8 has 14 in. wheels and the Movie 12in. so the Super 8 may be smoother riding on rough surfaces. Either one would be a good choice; it just is up to your personal likes and needs. And one more point, the 2013 style Super 8 is now a discontinued model although there are plenty around. The new Super 8 looks like the pic below.

Hey Big blue, thanks for the response, the tire size does concern me but is it that big a deal? Also the foot area on the Movie is much larger, I find it cumbersome to get my feet in a good position on the Super 8, not sure what it's called but the design of the lower "wind screen" is just oddly shaped and limits the foot area. I like both models and I'm leaning towards the Movie because of the foot area. Is it possible to add larger wheels? I'd rather have the super 8 just because of the performance and accessory options that are available but the Movie seems to be more comfortable.
From the picture you posted I can see they changed the front end a bit and removed the whole dash assembly...that wasn't right, I like the dash on the 13 better. I'll post some pics as soon as I figure this out

My vote is for the Movie. Not even close. More power. More room. Good luck on whatever you choose.

What "up grades" on a 4 stroke scooter? An after market pipe?
Take that $300>$450 and buy a bigger scooter - the $$ for aftermarket pipe gets you more noise , not more performance.
Darn few 'upgrades' will surpass the extra 3+HP and twin discs of the Movie, and if so will leave your scooter less reliable than stock..
If you are already wanting to upgrade either of these 4 stroke scooters - you probably need to be looking at a bigger scooter from the get-go.
Maybe a SYM or Burgman 200.
If you are OK with a 150 scooter - buy the Movie, enjoy the foot-room,  and run the stock/snot out of it for a few years - then buy bigger if you need more....whatever.
Seen too many wanting to buy a scooter to make it go faster.
Buy bigger if you need faster. Bigger/faster scooters are safely designed to go faster with increased wheel-base, increased weight, better brakes, etc.
Or buy what you want and play with the parts. Some do that.

The Movie looks really good and it would be my choice.  Great color as well and a decent set of lights by the look of it.

Movie hands down.
You'll need to build the super 8 just to get to the stock movie performance.

Thanks for the feedback..you guys are making my decision easier... seems the Movie is already upgraded above the Super 8. With the increased HP and the 4 valve head what else do I need? Definitely not noise! I don't know what upgrades I am looking for to be honest, I guess knowing there aren't many things for this scooter had me concerned. I'm learning that average Gy6 parts will work on it, being it's new I guess I won't need them too soon though.... It's just a bit disappointing that Kymco put 12" wheels on such a great scooter...but I'm sure there is an engineering reason. I had my eye on a used Aprilia Scarabeo 250 but it had10,000 miles on it...then I found out the same dealer had these leftover 2013 Kymco's for a few bucks more with warranty's ... correct me if I'm wrong but would you guys buy a new 2013 Kymco Movie 150 or a used 2006 Aprilia scarabeo 250?

Two yrs of worry free warrantied Movie riding.....or faster big wheel riding on 10 yr old Italian beauty......
Hmmmmm
Do you need reliable fun transportation ....or excitement in your life??.....not that WOT on a Movie won't give you thrills.
Yes, be certain...so no buyer's remorse.
Seems like most B.R. in the scooter world comes from buying too small....second is buying used with issues..

The wheel size on a well engineered 150 is kind off a moot point. I've ridden the Movie and it's soilid as a rock at 60mph. As far as the Aprilla v Movie that's an apples/oranges comparison. New vs well used. More HP and bigger wheels vs a warrantee.

As far as Gy6 parts. Sounds like you may be coming from a China scoot. If you are you'll soon find that Kymcos get ridden more than they get fixed!

All the best.
