too much oil
« on: August 18, 2016, 06:58:11 PM »
Hi All:
I just overfilled my xciting 500 oil, probably by about 1/2 quart--how much of a problem is this? I am not really in a good position to drain before riding about 150 miles--is this a serious issue?

thanks speedy replies would be appreciated...

I wouldn't ride. If it is not hot, get your hands dirty and try and just drain a little to get it right. Then have fun cleaning up the mess. I know it sucks but I wouldn't ride it. Wouldn't even start it.

Can you draw some out thru fill hole....Turkey baster and straw?
Siphon?
Have heard that overfilling can lead to whipped oil...frothing oil and therefore providing little lubrication.
Sure wouldn't go 150 miles that. Expensive engine.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

don't forget PVC and gunking up the intake.  Just open the drain plug a bit to drain the excess.

Spin off oil filter, poor out and spin back on. If still to much do so again after you let it run for a few seconds to re-fill filter. Pretty easy to do? :-*
