Vespa build?

Are Vespas significantly lighter with their monocoque,, rather than pipe frame?
Actually,  does the Vespa meet the definition of monocoque....where the 'skin' supports the major components?
Wonder why others aren't built this way....seems like stamping and tack welding sheetmetal would be no more difficult than pipe bending, drilling, and welding tabs all over.
Of course. ..might count my blessings with my Kymco.. ..since Vespas can be such a pain (to service?)
A pretty, but difficult, companion.

Piaggio (maker of Vespa) was originally a producer of locomotive and railway carriages before moving to aircrafts. It makes sense that they would create a scooter based on a monocoque chassis. Since Vespa is about the classic style and one of those attributes is the monocoque chassis. It just won't be a Vespa any other way. Piaggio on the other hand builds modern scooters using the tube frame/Tupperware body armor.
