Changing grips.

Tried changing the grips today but the workshop guys told me it cannot be done as the throttle tube and its grip are moulded together.

Is the correct?

I purchased Spider Peak grips and would like them fitted.

  I seen something about 6 months ago,.  and they installed foam covers over the grip,.  the grip was glued on,.

Horror.

Left side was a breeze. The right a nightmare, some Einstein at Kymco decided it was a good idea to mold the grip to the throttle tube. I tried slicing off the rubber but went too far and took out a decent chunk of the throttle tube - refer to pic.

Now, I need to source a new regular tube.

Maybe sanding it a bit and using enough glue would be ok.
When installing heated grips on my motorcycle I used specific glue used for mounting heated grips, after 7 years they haven't moved a bit.

Tried shaving it off with a blade, too much trouble.

Sanding would be a bigger PITA.

I just would like to get a new throttle tube without moulded grips.

Any suggestions on what fits?

Hi,
Part number 53140 in the exploded diagram shows that the grip and throttle tube is separate....... but I know it is mounted together.

Recently changed my grips on my GTI....yesterday actually. It's quite easy. Firstly you will need to purchase the entire 7/8" grip setup. (not the slide over grips) they'll be a pain in the backside.
It's easier to get the entire OEM grip off by spraying a little brake cleaner to soften the adhesive. This way it will be alot easier to remove. The grip system that I ordered has the entire throttle cable junction.

What do you have on your brake levers?  You can just notice it in the first photo.

They are molded by adhesive. Brake cleaner or Carb & Choke cleaner should easily remove.

I tried removing the throttle grip today on the DT300, it's impossible to do without completely destroying it. I think the OP is correct in that the rubber grip and the throttle sleeve is molded together. Brake cleaner and wedging an allen key/flat head screwdriver only broke the rubber apart. I'm done messing with it for now and will just install the heated grips on a different bike

Yeah, I've been trying to find a replacement throttle tube which is has a quick throttle function.
