Remove variator without air tool

Hello Boys and girls

I need to remove my variator to put in som new sliders and som cleaning.

I dont have an air tool for the job.

I´ve seen somewhere here in the forum that you could make your own tool, but ive searched and i cant find it..

Do you have any idea how to do it?

You can make a tool with flat bar, maybe 60cm long. Cut another flat bar 20cm.On longer bar, at 20cm,drill a hole, plus 1 at the end of the shorter bar. Bolt them together.
Now you have  a Y.
At the top ends of the Y, drill two holes and feed two ht bolts that will fit into the two holes you will see on the variator. Use two nuts to secure those bolts.
I have found I can put the handle part of the tool on top or bottom of the clutch bell for stopping it
 from moving while using a torque wrench to tighten or loosen the big variator nut.
Super easy.
Make 60cm longer if you need to to ensure it can rest on the clutch bell, or alternatively long enough to reach the ground as the stopping force.
Note this:make sure the tool does not move or slip out while using the torque wrench or it will damage the variator fins. Experience speaking...

Seems a little bit ticky to do the tool, found a cheap one.

Ebay and amazon sell cvt holding tools for about $12.
Add 14" of pipe and it works fine. My cheapo harbor freight 12V impact wrench worked great first time out on my Burgman using  a 12V scooter battery.
Second use in my LIKE200I was a pita...even off my truck battery.  The hold tools work every time with no drama. Your tool should work just fine. ...don't lift bike with it or you might tip it.

I will buy it , they have quit fast shipping aswell.

But im off today and tomorrow, so i will see if i can make myself one..

Im having that problem with really shaky takeoffs, so i want to clean (tune up) the cvt to see if it helps, ( havent opened it yet)

That one you linked to has no pivot so is not adjustable.
So it might be more difficult to get it to fit your variator.

I made my one with a wooden terrace plank (left from building my terrace). I have cut it with a jigsaw to about 60 cm long, then I have cut a square hole so there is place for the wrench to grab the nut, and drilled two holes in the "arms" of the appropriate diameter. When i use this "tool" i put two drill bits in the wholes in the "tool" and then I attach this to the variator.

Total cost for me was 0$, time to manufacture the tool ~10 minutes. Work great.

If you cannot imagine how this marvelous device looks like I can take a foto in the evening and post it here:)

I've seen a tool made by a company in italy that has posts to hook into the holes on the variator, and then the long part rests inside the case, so you can really tighten it down with hand tools. Not as good as an impact wrench, but it will serve in a pinch.

I used a cheap 12v impact wrench with a 19mm socket to remove the variator and clutch. You will need a variator holding tool to put them back on, as well as a torque wrench.

If your takeoffs are shaky, make sure you clean out all the dust around the rollers and lightly sand the clutch shoes and inner surface of the clutch bell.

I bought a holding tool and later a 12v cheep impact wrench... payed 35 bucks for that wrench and its worth every dollar!
The tool sits unused and shinny...

With a friend of mine we took the variator off holding it like shown in this pictures.

Lots of youtube videos that show how to make your own tool..I followed directions at Mitch's Scooter Stuff ( or his other scooter/video channel?)

24 inch long piece of cheap bar stock, cut 7 inches off so you have a 17 inch and 7 inch pieces. Drill 3 holes, insert 3 bolts and a few nuts and you're good to go.

I used mine yesterday to change the belt and clutch assembly, worked great.

You also get the satisfaction of making your own tool.
