Rebuild time

Been a long time guys. I believe I blew a head gasket (smell burning water and white smoke), so I just got a honda ctx700...lol. Anyway, my oldest daughter will be riding it soon and wanted some advice.  I'm gonna take the head off just to make sure it's only the gasket, but would u guys recommend replacing piston, rings at the same time? She has 24,796km on her.  Other thanthat, she can still muscle up to 45mph.... so what do u guys think?

Wow, that's a lot of km's.  I don't know, if still running good and you are happy with performance, would probably just put it back together and keep riding.  Cheers

Interesting issue, stock battery won't turn over starter, but jumping off car will..... any ideas?

Stock battery can't even turn it over. But is fully charged.  Jumping off motorcycle battery turnso it slowly. Seems like starter us dragging a$$.... lol. Time for a new starter?

Could be.   Though I haven't had any starters go quite that way.
I'd be tempted to swap your other MC battery in and see if it does better.
Just because something indicates it's charged fully doesn't mean it's any good.

check the battery while the motor is turning over,  using the starter, it is like a load test,. on the battery

While the scoots running, the starter won't even engage.(I hear a slight click but no grinding) Seems to need a lot of juice to get it to engage.

Have you pulled the starter, checked the gears and bendix to see if working freely?  With almost 25000km, might just need some tlc.  Cheers

Im sorry, I know y'all are ballers on a budget, but these machines are over 10 years old and i cant justify NOT rebuilding one unless it was granny owned. They are small engines which everyone is told is going to last less then bigger engines and here we are. it's like a 60yo girl over an 18yo lol, granny panties  Anyways, I know S9's are super reliable and tuning will effect the engineering that made it such, but there are things that you can lightly tune and have a little more while Actually following a maintenance schedule instead of waiting for disaster at this point some 10+ years later. By now all the variators and clutches are usually shot and flattened out, the reeds are questionable as well as fuel petcocks. the cylinders will be lucky to have the correct compression, even if it shows up good on a compression tester, you should use a leak down tester to really know your compression. Most electrical fails around 10 years, so yea. Personally Im rebuilding, and if it was daddies little girl, her scoots gunna be more reliable then mine, period.
