Clean air checks were discontinued in BC last year, for all vehicles.  Reason: new cars are emissions clean and stay clean, so testing no longer required.  They don't worry about testing hot-rods, antiques, or motorcycles.

Smog checks are required in Cali, but not for PTW.

E-checks are a bad idea. A lot of shops were taking peoples money and not doing the required checks. It was a major rip off.
Also a major headache for people with multiple vehicles.
Personally, I hate all this big brother sh**.

Have you noticed diesel trucks and semi s, billowing black smoke.
I think tractor trailer trucks are exempt, not sure about diesel trucks.

nope Diesels here are still have to do the Drive Clean as well.  From the smallest VW to the biggest  anything with a GVWR of 4500Kg. Farm diesels are exempted

The upside is you might find that long lost Moon Pie which went missing in the late 80's.
Vintage M.Pies are fetching good $$ on eBay.

Smog check every two years for cars over 5 year's old. Sniffer in tailpipe. Cars computer check. Gas cap test. Checked for missing equipment. No registration without it. Unsure about bikes. It is easy to find someone to pass a car if the price is right.
 They haven't done the safety inspections for decades now.

I was sent my annual DMV renewal and was instructed to have a smog check on my 2012 Honda Accord after 4 years. Here the kicker, the inspection requires no use of equipment. Just a visual inspection. Only in California!

In NJ, they eliminated all safety checks and now just check emissions. You can go through inspection with a cracked windshield, bald tires and bad brakes and still pass as long as the emissions are within spec.

In CA we have to get a smog check every other year to renew our vehicle registration. Certain vehicles are exempt, including gasoline cars four or less years old, gasoline cars 1975 or older, and motorcycles. So if your license plate has the current year sticker you're good to go.
