Gday all,

I thought Id start a thread on sourcing good quality motor scooter tyres here in Australia.

Something thats made with dual tread compounds, on a reinforced motor scooter tyre carcass

In march 2016 I was in Brisbane, Queensland, I got a new rear tyre, a  Michelin Power Pure SC Scooter 130/70-12 reinforced ,    Load index 62  (265kg)  Speed rating P (150kph)   for just $58.00 AUD, thats like 40 Euro!

I rode my motor scooter in, n 20 minutes later I rode out on a new Michelin tyre, supplied, balanced and fitted for  $58.00 AUD!

But I find myself in Sydney, New South Wales, needing a new rear tyre in a 130/70-12 reinforced ,    Load index 62    Speed rating P

There are places selling Michelin Power Pure SC Scooters, but the price jump in Sydney is around $95.00 !

Anybody know of a better value motorcycle tyre shop I should contact in or around Sydney?

PS, Good tyre info links below  :)

I have bought my tires on Amazon and took them to a motorcycle shop for installation. Try something like that or Ebay. There seems to be quite a difference in price, at least in the states.

It sounds like a joke, but Im seriously thinking of ordering in a motor scooter tyre in from Queensland, or taking the rear wheel off my bike and sending it to Queensland and having them fit and balance it there, then posting it down to Sydney.

But its so close to Christmas, Im not sure how long it would take to get back.

FYI to anybody looking for motor scooter tyres, Teammoto fit and balance any tyre you buy from them  for free!

for me it was a  Michelin Power Pure SC Scooter 130/70-12 reinforced ,    Load index 62  (265kg)  Speed rating P (150kph)   for just $58.00 AUD

 www.teammoto.com.au

Address
969 Ipswich Road, Moorooka, Brisbane, QLD 4105
Phone (07) 3426 4404

If anybody can beat or even come close to matching that price in Australia, dont be shy about posting the details right here :)

I should add, I do like the Michelin power pure sc motor scooter tyres a lot, but Im not married to Michelin.

As long as its a hi tech tyre from a good quality known brand, with a  reinforced motor scooter tyre carcass and dual tread compounds, a good  load index and speed rating like a 62P

Im happy to look at it :)

oddly when I plug my motor scooter specs in to the michelin web site http://moto.michelin.com.au/AU/en/homepage.html  KYMCO Like 200i

it recommends only the MICHELIN CITY GRIP tyres, if you want the Michelin Power Pure SC Scooter tyres you have to look them up on your own, I wonder why that is?

Ive never used the city grips, but with a lower  load index and speed rating maxing out at 120/70 -12 51P for the front tyre of my motor scooter against a  load index and speed rating on the power pure sc 120/70 -12 58P  on the front

and on the rear tyre the Michelin Power Pure SC Scooter maxing out in my size at 130/70 -12 62P   beat the MICHELIN CITY GRIPs at  130/70 -12 56P

I wonder why Michelin are pushing the weaker CITY GRIPs over the stronger Power Pure SC  tyres

The diffrence in the tyres technical specifications might not be much, but Im going to give myself every chance I can not to win the wheel chair lottery!

The Likes are not performance scooter they are big bodied cruisers I have once of 3 Like 50s on this forum or anywhere for that matter that have done 60 or better they just aren't like the S9 or ZX50 or such and aren't meant to go fast......it takes alot of work. The CIty Grips are a better yr round tire than the Power Purse which is the only 2 compound scooter tire and is deemed a performance and light weight tire. as it is I ride twisties fast and I have Power Pure on rear.

I cant say I agree with you about Kymco Likes being a big bodied motor scooter, my 200i weights less than 120kg!

As for the  motor scooter tyres, Id just like to see a list of all their tyres that match my motor scooters technical specifications, if they wanna do a recommend tyre on top of that, thats great, but their first job is to show the customer all the tyres that fit.

Maybe a city grip on the front and a power pure on the rear might be a good combination.  Agree that there site should bring up all available tyres when searching.

Kymco Like motor scooters come in 3 sizes, two of at least 124CCs and one that has such a small engine of 49CCs its actually in a sub group of motor scooters called mopeds

Youre right though, theres no way Id use a Kymco Like 49CC moped

Stay safe!
