Led light bars for uxv 450i
« on: December 11, 2016, 04:03:19 AM »
Looking at putting a led light bar on my uxv 450i. Was just curious what wattage I could go up to without drawing to much power. Was thinking light bar in the front and a couple little lights in the back. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Just curious as to why the light bar??  I have found the factory headlights to be very good, never had an issue with not being able to see quite well. Not sure I would want to strain the existing system, in other posts guys that have added light bars on other machines have installed a second battery. I do some night riding in my area and have never found the need for additional lighting. So just curious here.....

Just looking for a bit more light for plowing with. Was looking to mount it on the roof so it's easier to see over the plow.

I put a 20w (6200) lumen LED bar on my roof for plowing, What a difference. Direct wire to the battery through a fuse, works great... used an open switch hole on the dash. Only shot it I had.  :-\
It can always be climbed.....

Yep like that idea of direct wire to the battery with a fuse, no sense overtaxing the electrical system of the buggy. Have you ever run out of battery power with that set of lights?

That looks good! What roof and windshield do you have?? Are you still running the stock battery??

I just now saw the pic, I was expecting a larger light bar...how bright is that thing? Was it really worth the time and trouble...do you really get that much more light?

Just looked at mine as I was wondering what I woud need when it comes time to replace it. So mine is rated at 18ah. According to the factory manual it states 12v 18ah, full chg at 13. - 13.2v, do not drop below 12.3 before recharging.

So could the battery handle any additional lighting if one so desired to put any on without any complications of overloading the electrical system and battery??

its not the battery that you consider, its the output of the charging system, iirc, I read somewhere it is 310 watts, subtract from that howmuch it takes just to run the UTV, (electric fuel pump is probably the biggest user) at least with a UTV, lights are not always running like on a motorcycle

20±watts for a LED light bar shouldn't be a problem

So a 20 watt LED light bar is all that should be used to be safe?  That doesn't leave a lot of choices in lights

If you read on other forums about guys mounting serious lighting on there machines they go with dual batteries. I have found the headlights on this machine are fine, better than any light on any atv I ever had. I have found out that you can replace the factory headlamps with silverstar bulbs for autos. I have them in my car and they are really brite, thinking about adding them to the Kymco.

If you add a dual battery, you mean another ATV battery or a car battery? And where would you put it? I like a LED light bar not gonna lie. I dont know that they're necessary, but they are "cool". Thats good to know that the silverstar bulbs will work. I have ran them in my trucks in the past. Whats the part number for the bulb?
