Just a little bit of grit can do it.Try to use some contact cleaner work the key in and out turn it if possible than some type of lube.Could also be the cable needs to be claened and lubed for the gas cap.Hope that helps.Welcome to the forum.

...been here for a while luckydog, i see...but this is your first post...

..is your key bent, or worn any at all?

..if both the ignition AND the gas cap are giving you a fit, then a bent or worn key would be my first guess...
..every mod (action) necessitates a (reaction) mod..

I'd be amazed if the ignition switch changed since 2004. Every time I've ordered parts online via the KymcoUSA Dealer web site, it only lists a 2004 P250. All the parts so far have fit my 2007 P250.

Providing your key is not bent-get a aerosol can of Tri-flow lubricant. Insert nozzle into the key hole and spray some. Then spray the latch/cable assembly. This stuff does not hurt paint or plastic, and has teflon in it. Also good for spraying into light ,turn, & kill switches and such. Improves electrical contacts, loosens sticky mechanical mechanisms. Much better than WD-40.
