Trickle Charging 2006 People 250
« on: February 05, 2017, 07:37:06 PM »
I recently purchased a People 250 and had a question about trickle charging. When I  pull up the seat to access the battery a light comes on inside the compartment. I can't seem to figure out how to turn it off. Since I would charge the battery with the seat up this light would stay on  causing a power draw. Any idea how to turn this compartment light off?
Thanks.

The People GTi300 does not have such a light but the DT300i does and it is activated by the seat latch (es). Push downward on the movable part of the seat latch and see if the light goes out with seat up. You got it if it does! The latch switches are in series when there are two so you only have to activate one. Let us know what you find!

Like de dee, I also disconnected my under seat light. Small plug, just side the wall of the tub. On the DT300 the light is so low in the tub that is useless anyway. As for the trickle charger. I buy the "float: chargers from Harbor Freight Tools. I have a catalog here with a coupon to get one for $4.99 and they work very good. Been using them for years. I also run a pig tail from the battery out under the plastic and wire tie it to the rear reflector bracket. I use a two wire shielded plug and when I park my scoot I just plug in the float charger and leave it. Use one on my ATV and my zero turn. Mower sits all winter and in the spring fires right up.Got 7 years out of a Walmart mower battery and 5 years out of a Harley battery. These float chargers cannot and will not over charge your battery. It's the only way to go for me.

I made a small notch at the top of the the seat tub and ran a trickle charger/maintainer pigtail from the battery to just under/outside of the seat. I use Schumacher trickle chargers/maintainers from Walmart.

On the DT300, the battery is right behind the rear of the tub and there are several openings down toward the ground. So I just put the pigtail thru a hole and down under the plastic and tied it off to the rear, left side reflector bracket. However we reach the outside, a pigtail is the way to go. Nothing to do but plug her up. Mine stays connected 24-7 when I'm not riding.

Crossbolt, thank you. Indeed, if you use a flat blade screwdriver and push down on the latch the light inside the underside of the seat goes out for charging. Just have to leave the seat ajar while charging and unlatch it with the key prior to closing the seat.
