HELP! - Fuel Coming Out Of My Air Filter
« on: February 07, 2017, 10:06:26 PM »
Hi Guys,

I have this problem with my 2012 50CC 2-stroke Super 8 scooter. The mods I did is listed below:

1. Changed stock exhaust to a Leo Vince performance exhaust with restriction removed.
2. Changed stock roller weights to a 5.7g per weight.
3. Changed stock main jet to 88mm.

My maximum speed is 70kph. I like it so far at least it is unrestricted and can travel faster.

Now last night I was traveling at full speed and came to a stopped traffic light. Then suddenly the engine lost power even though I turned the throttle up.

I checked the scooter when I got home and saw out that petrol is coming out of the air filter. I tried re-starting the scooter both by cranking and electric but it just did not start or had trouble re-starting.

I searched online and found out that probably I have a flooded carb.

Has anyone had this same situation before?

If anyone can share their suggestions and comments on how to fix this issue please reply to this thread. Your help will be appreciated guys, Thanks!!!

I had a problem similar to this on a bike once.  The bike had been running fine all summer.  I rolled onto a parking lot, pulled in my clutch to downshift and the bike died.  The only way I could get the bike to run was to keep throttle open about 1/3.  Less than that and the bike would die.  Gas was coming out the carb overflow when I tried to start it regular low rpm's.  Turns out the bike WAS flooding because some debris was stuck to the tip of the float valve needle - so the needle would not close.  It was always open a little bit.  Of course I had to remove the carb to inspect the float valve to find this.  And it turned out that the debris source was a deteriorating rubber gasket in the petcock.  After I rebuilt the petcock with new parts, I replaced the fuel line and added a fuel filter just ahead of the carb.  Good luck.  Tell us what you find.

Not sure what type of carburetor you bike has, but it it's the type with a float bowl, my bet would be a stuck float valve. Does is continue to leak while not running? If it does then turn your petcock to the "off" position. It will take a short time for the gas to stop dripping out. If it does stop, then the valve is stuck open, in which case, you will need to take the carb. down and give it a good cleaning.. Good luck.

That's two votes for a stuck float valve.

Thanks guys. I might open the carb this weekend and see if indeed the float valve is stuck. I do no have a pet valve where is it located? Is it in the fuel line? Thanks.

If it's like mine Super 8, there is no petcock with on, off and reserve positions - just a vacuum activated diaphragm  (it's located under the storage box beneath the seat).  So you cannot "turn off" the fuel delivery.  Fuel delivery only happens when the engine is turning over and a vacuum is created.  If the device is operating correctly, when you disconnect the fuel line at the carb only a small amount of gas will come out of the line (the fuel between the carb and the diaphragm).

If that is the case, with a vacuum set up, then I would check the vacuum valve first. They are prone to stick. At any rate, it should be an easy fix, once it is located. Keep us informed. Good Luck.

If the vacuum valve is stuck (open), gas will always flow to the carb since it is gravity fed.  This is not a problem if the float valve is closing properly.   You will know in short order when removing the fuel line from the carb if the vacuum valve is closing properly.

Hey, Karl.  Do you monitor these responses to make sure we're not just making this stuff up as we go along?  You know.  Recommendations like checking the level of your headlight fluid,  adjusting the output of the flux capacitor, etc.?

Yeh, I do. Headlight fluid level is phony but Flux Capacitor Output MUST be maintained at or above 12 micro-joules per milli-fortnight. The adjustment screw is on the right side of the ECU. Make small adjustments.

Karl. Is the Super 8 oil injection or do you have to mix?

Thanks Karl, since it is a 2 stroke, I was just curious. Yesterday evening I rode down the the doctor , off of Germantown road. It was sunny and 68 degrees when I left. Came out in a couple of hours and it look like snow and felt like it too. So me and my long sleeve tee shirt took off trying  to catch and pass the cold front, but I didn't. Mother nature won that round. :-X :-X
