Which front tire should I get?
« on: February 26, 2017, 04:21:55 AM »
I have narrowed down the choices for a front tire for my Honda Helix to the ones in the previous poll. I would really appreciate ya'lls  input. Wet weather performance is very important to me. I ride all year in practically all condition.

Power pure is hard in center nd soft on sides so if you don't jusat go fromm A to B with scoot and like to get a lil aggressive the Power Pure is definitely thw way to go. Alot of Grom and z125 riders I know use it also they love it on the twisties and the hard center if you keep air pressure right makes it last longer

I really like the City Grips. The original Kenda lasted 12K, but they weren't good on wet pavement. The City Grips roll smooth and wet/dry traction excellent.

It's been a long time since I did any research on this, but I remember it was down to some Michelin tire or Pirelli Diablos and I went with the latter.

I would assume however that being harder in the middle would mean less traction available to you when you're braking in the rain.

I've never understood and always wondered how people decide that one tire grips better than another? I've low sided three times by braking too hard on wet roads, on the original Cheng Shin tires on my first first Yamaha scooter. Besides those times, I've never noticed any loss of traction except on loose gravel.

I'd recommend getting a matching rear tire at the same time.

The best motorcycle tyres you can get are  dual tread compound.

having 2 tread compounds means the motorcycle tyre can be soft and sticky on the outside for corners AND firmer in the middle for longer tread life  and higher mileage!

these hi tech tyres are still fairly new in the motorcycle  world and are only lately available to motor scooters

they are  like 2 tyres in 1!

I LOVE my Michelin power pure sc motor scooter tyres!

the Michelin city grips are very good, but after trying both, Im sticking to the Michelin power pure sc motor scooter tyres!

Remember to get the best Load index AND Speed rating  you can for you new motor scooter tyres, your life depends on it.

The Michelin power pure sc  tyre is also the best tyre for Honda Grom  motorcycles Front 120/70-12 Load index 58 Speed rating P
Rear 130/70-12 reinforced ,    Load index 62    Speed rating P

Thanks everyone for the responses! I have chosen the City Grips. Heres why;

1. Tried and true tire, especially in the rain.
2. The most recommended
3. The more available of the two
4. Better record of longevity.
5. Seems like a better commuter tire.

I really wanted the Power Pures! But heres why I did not chose them;

1. Newer tire with more mixed reviews than the City Grips.
2. Limited availability compared to the City Grips.
3. Stickier rubber on the sides but less aggressive wet weather tread than City Grips.
4. I am wary of the idea of a harder center tread on a front tire. I will accept a softer center on the front if it will stop me faster.
5. They are more expensive than the City Grips. Not a deal killer but every point swayed me toward the City Grips.

Thanks again. I am looking forward to getting the new tire and seeing how it rides. I am also mounting and balancing it myself for the first time.
I am tired of paying what is almost the cost of the tire to pay someone else to mount it!

Im sure youll be fine on the Michelin City Grip  motor scooter tyres, Id say theres less than 20% diffrence between them and the dual tread compound Michelin Pure Power SCs
