Good man indeed. Now I'll go against the grain here.

I understand your thoughts as after a spinal cord injury those that cared for me had to literally wipe my ass.

It's called "egg shelling" and it's very common. Loved ones in their quest to help a disabled relative, friend etc start to treat them like fine china. Careful he might break. It's well meaning but counterproductive in the long run.

Fact is you are already broken and they are not. Everyday is a risk for the ABs as they have everything to lose. We on the other hand have everything to gain. Once you've been motionless for a while perspective changes.

I'd say if you want to ride explain why to those around you and expect that they will not understand. Pray they are never in the position to understand......

Ive had many well meaning people try to keep me from riding, skiing, skydiving and the like. Fact is my SCI empowered me. That's not saying I wouldn't turn the clock back if I could and be amoung the healthy.

You can't make others happy unless you are happy. I wish you the best.

One thing I've learned is that in many of life's situations there is often no ONE answer that is correct for a particular situation. In those situations we get advice from other people, pray, and then simply eliminate the WRONG answers.

1. I know that I will NOT simply ignore the feelings of those who love and care about me.
2. I know that I will NOT let others smother me and dictate my decisions and cause me to be miserable.

I figure that there is a LOT of area in between where I can negotiate safely and come up with something where everyone (that counts, meaning me, and close family) can live with and be content.

AMAC has presented some valid points as well as the rest of you. And Stig , I'm with you. Why jump out of a perfectly good airplane! Lol.

Anyway, I guess that's why you all can't get rid of me. You all seem to have GOOD SENSE most of the time. Traits that are increasingly RARE. Even at the highest levels. --- But that's a discussion for a different forum. [emoji2]
