Just a quick note re. Harbor Freight's 12 volt impact wrench:
Worked great one time on Burgman CVT, barely worked next time on my LIKE200i  CVT.....not even trying to work today on LIKE200I  axle nut. Couldn't open a Coke with it.
So, works one time, then makes good canoe anchor.
Why'd I buy? Guy on yutube used one....bet he couldn't  get a nut off the next time.
Tool shopping  tomorrow.

1/2" breaker bar and cheater pipe plus WD40 + heat, not able to budge the 24mm nut.

I picked up the corded version.   

So far haven't run out of power on it, but you never know.

Oh, oh. If not the tire dealer, who else torqued it? You? It´s only 120NM on that nut. Therefore normally no cheater pipe shoud be needed.  Someone used Loctite?
And yes, the cheap 12V impact wrenches are not really good stuff. The better ones have 18V or 24V with better batteries but are much more expesive.
As Tromper mentioned, the cheaper corded ones should work ok for more than once. 
And never underestimate a real good extra conoe anchor.

I too have the corded impact wrench. Have used it on my cars and scooters many times. Hasn't failed me yet. I appreciate your update on the 12 volt Stig, I was thinking of buying one.

what did you buy? a POS from Harbor Freight that's what.
HF is good for hand tools but not power tools.

even my electric Dewalt impact only does so much and then the breaker bar comes out.

All of Harbor Frights stuff comes straight out of China. Remember the old saying? You get what you pay for. They have a few items that I buy, like the 12vdc float chargers, they work good. 90% of what they sell is junk.

There was a fellah who had the cordless variant of some kind he loaned me when swapping my rollers on the cannonball, probably the same as the HF one with a different name on it, if not the HF one.  It was up to the task, but really no more, & it was fairly new.  I doubt it could have taken off the rear wheel had it been seriously torqued in place & stick like many area if they've been sitting for a couple years.
The corded variant doing the same job on the SYM was notably more powerful, & of course won't run out of juice.  It also had no problem at all with the rear wheel on same.

Cordless is nifty but I suspect you have to go up the food-chain to get a truly good impact wrench, & of course the batteries are usually LIon these days and those don't like to sit for long periods without being topped off. 
The sitting issue the main reason I have corded tools.  I use them intermittently so cordless tools tend to be too unreliable, & even if I do use 'em or at least keep 'em charged the batteries only last a couple years, so very few uses per expensive battery pack.

I received an old beaten and battered used Milwaukee 18v impact from work many years ago. It had fell out of a bucket being lowered down, about 16-20 feet. Landed on it's battery busting the battery and the back side of the foot were the battery slides on. It was left in a filing cabinet I inherited when I made shift supervisor. When my boss saw it with the wires hanging out the bottom he gave me that day to dispose of it due to a state safety inspection. I offered to throw it in my old Subaru and dispose of it at my home! To my surprise he agreed!! Already had a Milwaukee 18v drill/driver and work light plus three batteries! A little silicone caulking had the leads back in place and this impact served me well for over 10 years rotating tires, removing crank bolts, axle bolts and cvt nuts. Died early last year. It has since been discontinued but luck shined it's grace on me. I found a new in  the box tool only for $165.00 on Ebay. That things has been the best tool I have ever owned when it was needed to remove large, stubborn or heavily torqued bolts and nuts. That's my tool story for today!

Mac, Educate me on Harbor Freight float chargers.  I have few Deltran smart chargers and I need another one now to maintain my Super 8 50 battery. Which  Harbor Freight model have you had success with?

My corded Harbor Freight 1/2" impact drive  lasted 15 years before falling apart; a new one cost me $40 this week, on sale from regularly $50.

 I agree with others: the 12 volt stuff just doesn't do the job. The corded one draws 7 amps, which at 120 volts is 840 watts. Your 12 volt tool battery would have to provide 70 amps to equal that power. No way, Jose, unless you hooked it to a car battery.

In my tool box is a 27 year old Snap On 1/2 in drive Air impact.
If I push the stub into the ground and hit the trigger it will increase the earths rotational speed.

Sorry, eamartin. I just now read your post of nearly 4 months ago. You probably have already learned about the HF Float Chargers by now, but on the chance you haven't, here goes: You can usually pick-up a HF Float Charger, with a coupon, for between $5 - $7 bucks. They work very well on small batteries, like lawn mowers, ATV's scooters and m/c. They will not charge a dead battery, but will keep a good, charged battery at full charge and will actually make your battery last longer. They WILL NOT over charge. I  keep one on all my toys 24/7 when not in use. They last forever if not dropped on a concrete floor.  As far as I can see they do the same thing as a Battery Tender, but cost far less. I can recommend them.
