Sry, I thought he said, "The scooter is a 2001 model so out of warranty." in post #5 but I could be wrong.

IF it really is a two zero zero one model, there's a fine chance the crankcase seals are less than optimal.

Always a Huge benefit to have just a few more details when remote diagnosing. :-)

I had a similar problem on my Like early on. It may be a long shot, but check the electrical lead going to the starter motor. Mine unscrewed it self and the wire layed across the engine casing making contact, but once the engine warmed and I shut the scooter down it was rough to start it up again. Once it did it was okay. I think the heat caused the plastic coating to expand moving it away from a positive contact. Eventually I found myself having to bounce the suspension to make contact and start. Once I discovered the problem I replaced the bolt securing the electrical lead and it has been good as gold ever since. I did use Loctite to prevent the problem from happening again.
