ACF-50 corrosion Rx under the hood
« on: April 24, 2017, 08:28:50 PM »
Treated under the seat area with the ACF-50 corrosion treatment/preventer today. Sprayed and wiped down pretty much everything I could hit with the wand sprayer....including battery terminals and the bolts and screws from the seat bucket & battery cover.

Before wiping the terminal...

Scoot is probably going to smoke a bit on the next ride. Smells funny for awhile, too....but glad to have it better protected.

Seems unusual in this day and age to see a metal fuel tank. Watching for ol'smokey heading down the road.

How often before you have to be reapplied and what if you wash it?

Once a year or so, they say. Once dry....won't wash off.
I recommend  the trigger spray bottle over the spray can. Costs more, get more, eassier to get it on your target. Less waste.
Still smelling it a bit after 3 rides....not hateful.
Wish I'd. put it on when new, esp. the heavily corroded Burgman. That scooter has no rear tire fender as such. Evedything gets flung straight  atop the rear of engine!

It´s interesting to look under your seat Tom. Your cables, wires, hoses, connectors are often routed very differently compared to mine. And some of them you have, I don´t have at all.  :o And it´s not only the battery tender cable.  ;)
I will take pictures of my engine compartement the next time I am in there. Probably soon, to check the head nuts and the valve clearance after my repair.

Cheers,
Robo

That will be interesting to see what your scooter looks like under there.
I  have had a lot of stuff off and back on again (injector, fuel pump, coil, evap. pollution  hoses,  O2 wre & connector, throttle body, tachometer pick-up, etc.). .. usually  pretty close to where I  found things.
Maybe you have differing pollution controls ?
Look forward to your photo!
Take care, Robo

Applied it to both scooters and to my son's Honda motorcycle.
Since little of the Honda motorcycle is hidden from the eye - the 3 yr old Honda is presented with such finely finished fittings and engine surfaces that I could find darn few places that might eventually benefit from the ACF-50..

The Burgman has a radiator opening that catches road grime, and the lack of a rear fender-hugger means that everything that rear tire picks up is thrown on top of the back of the engine assembly. A really lousy idea. Owners attach home-made flaps to cut down on the grime that gets up there....requiring the removal of the rear wheel & exhaust to install.
The paint on the Burgman's frame leaves much to be desired.
Burgman before..

Applied ACF-50..

IMHO the LIKE has a front fender that is more than decoration, and that nice rear fender hugger and under-body panels do a great job of keeping this scooter clean.

Results ? Check out the many postings on youtube.
Recommendation: apply this stuff to your new scooter.

Some pics for Stig from my underhood aerea...wiring and routing a bit different
Mine is apart from a few added zip ties original. Plus the tiny little welded metal rod that holds 2 hoses in place  on the right side next to the air intake hose fell off recently. Still have the rod, but no possibility to weld anything. Was a welding failure. Not strong and good enough welded.
I do also have a battery  tender cable installed, but never used or needed so far.
Cheers,
Robo

Thanks Robo !

I see that you do not have the vent tube from the fuel neck, nor all the added hoses or it's 1-way valve, nor the charcoal canister which we have. (to gather fuel vapors ?)

2 questions :
a) do they not make a regular 'front only' Heidenau that is not reinforced. Here it seems reinforced tires are stipulated for rear mounting.

2) What is the word re. the availability of the all-new design of the LIKE in Europe? I see that the KYMCO Taiwan home page no longer lists the old version LIKE in their line-up of scooters.

FYI, I emailed KYMCO USA to see what they have to say re. the new LIKE.

Thanks again for the pictures!
