5w40 synthetic oil ?
« on: April 25, 2017, 11:57:20 AM »
I did put it in yesterday. in hope to achieve higher top end (which it did not). but engine feels smoother during acceleration.
Wondering if this will cause any issues....

Probably make your engine happy...but never heard oils will change performance.....except from an oil company.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

If it's a rated lubricant from a reputable company, you should be in fine shape.
I would not be overly concerned unless planning on a run to Dakar.

yes, they do run some Zero weight oils in race-cars...  it has the viscosity of water !
and the DO zing right up there !!!

Several cars run 0W20 or 0W40 these days.

I run Shell Rotella 5/40 synthetic and have no concerns with it at all. As others have said, oil usually will not increase your top end.

Depends on how cold your winters get; the colder it gets, the lower first number is what you want (5 rather then 10 or 20). Here in sunny CA I use 10W-40 or 20W-50. Read your manual, they should show a chart for various temp ranges.
