What is the most obscure scooter you...
« on: May 16, 2017, 05:47:44 PM »
....would actually purchase?
In my neck of the woods, it would be a Kymco.
Good quality for the $, obscure, barely represented...but easy online parts availability and an accurate and helpful forum.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

How about one of these old scoots (Cushman):

...or perhaps a Decopod:

But for now (here in reality), probably a Vespa, since we have no dealer or support around here for them.

This is a 1948 Salsbury Scooter.

There was a 12 year production run in California.

Google search brings up quite a lot of info on them, yet it would be difficult to find someone who has even heard of them today.

A short time ago, the body/engine cover section appeared in our local Craigslist, being sold out of one of the ranches in the outback.
I have no idea what the disposition ended up.

Obscure? Today I looked at a 1982 Honda MB5 that was listed on Craig's...  It was all there, fair condition.
CA taxman would have slayed me because it was from another state and had no papers or current registration.
Very difficult to find parts. It was only imported to usa for 1 year.

If I was a Real collector, I could have brought it home for a couple hundred.

Trout, I had one of these in my service truck to get around huge warehouses while chasing down forklift trucks!

Smart man! They have a lot of utility. I use my kids Razor to make runs to Walgreens when the one who must be obeyed runs out of something.

Redk, love the look of that Salsbury scooter - very "Buck Rogers" aura about it.

It does !  I have not read anything about that correlation, but there's plenty of fun things to read about them with a google search.

Many years back we rode dirtbikes in a canyon that was known locally as having once been used for either Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon outdoor sets. It was about 40 miles from Hollywood.
Good place to ride for an afternoon.

I lived in Wales many years ago and bought a BSA Dandy. 70cc's of 2 stroke power. Hand operated starter lever and 2 speed pre-selector transmission.

I would get something in the classic family. Nearly all of the rallies in my parts are for classic scooters. With my DT there's little chance of participation in group rides or presentation awards.
