Nail in Tire

I just discovered a nail that is stuck thru the very edge of my rear tire, so I don't believe the tire is leaking. Both ends are exposed. If I pull it out I'm afraid the tire will leak, and there are no dealers in my area to patch or replace it. I was thinking of just cutting off each end and leaving the nail in the tire. Would it be a good idea?

I wouldn't ride the bike.
I also would replace it. IMO motorcycle tires should not be patched.

If it's just through the tread then I'd just pull it out. Photos would help in seeing for ourselves.

Replace the tire. The cost of the tire versus the cost of a possible crash is minuscule. I would only patch a tire as a temporary on road fix to get me home.

Yes I would pull the nail out , if it was through the carcass of tire it would be leeking,.

Probably should not ride with a large nail stuck in the tire...
No pics...

I have, and shall continue to patch and repair flats on motorcycles.
Of course some damage is not acceptable, especially if a high speed application.

I do know moped riders who could not ride if they did not Slime their tubes prior to riding in their town.
It IS a good product especially where 'goat's heads' are prevalent.  ..and I don't know the tech name of them...

If you do travel at Z rated speeds and are adverse to risk, it might be best to have that additional pair of wheels and more steel.

I'm with the others.  Need a pic.

If it's just through a tread corner.  Pull it.  Shouldn't be a big deal, & if it is the tire was dead anyway.
Just pulled a sharp rock that had dug into a tread block out the other day.  Didn't think twice.

If it's not just just through the tread then odds are it has killed the tire.   
Even those who believe a tire can be patched or used after a puncture will only do it in a limited area of the tire in the middle of the tread.

Far as "Slime" and similar goes, I am a fan of Ride-On.  I've used it with good success even over more than a couple miles with a small hole.
Caveat emptor, RTFM, carpe diem, carpe carp, & don't try this at home kids. (aka if it don't work it ain't my fault, & I told ya so)

I am capable of the Best workmanship, yet on my own, personal equipment do what is necessary for the application.

Always get a 2nd opinion on Anything I might say.

It happened to me last year where a nail sent sideways thru the meat of the tread of my fz6 rear tire.  I pulled it out did the soap water test and all was good. Rode it for the rest of the season and continuing to ride it this year with no issues.
