Noise from clutch area 2016 UXV 450i
« on: June 08, 2017, 04:51:10 PM »
Hello, I am new to the forum. I just bought a new 2016 UXV 450i in Camo, Love the look. I rode my machine for approx 78 miles, then the rear end started howling. Low and behold, the front and rear diffs were empty. I filled them and the howling stopped. Also now experiencing some grinding sound coming from the clutch area when coming to a stop and or slow backing. I brought the SXS back to the dealer and was told that the grinding sound was normal? Also, I had a real hard time convincing them that the diffs were empty, I asked them if they checked the before delivering the unit to me and they responded yes. I responded with "so they left them empty when inspected?" Then they told me that Kymco ships them with full diifferential oil, So I asked again, "Then it is ok to charge dealer prep and not do the prep?" This is when they sent me to the manager who was unavailable. Anyone else experiencing the "Normal" grinding sound? Any one else get a unit without Diff Oil?
Thx in advance.

If you can't get any satisfaction from your dealer, you can call Kymco directly at the US factory down south. Do some research and you will find the contact information.  I had a couple small issues that the dealer had no answers to, I talked to them directly, were very helpful and sent me additional information.

Sounds like these dealers need to be held accountable for their negligence when prepping and selling. Probably too busy playing on their damn cell phones. Can't say that I have any grinding noise yet..

You will get some noise from the clutch area when slowing down as the clutches expand and contract, not sure I would call it grinding but CVT transmissions do make some noise in there normal operation.  Go back to your dealer and have him put in writing that the noise is normal then call the factory and ask them.  You now have something to fall back on if there is a future problem. I have talked to the factory reps and were pleased with their help.

Thank you all for the reply, I am taking it back in this week and have a talk to the owner, we'll see what happens.

What weight does everyone use for gear box oil?  I see the manual just says SAE 80.  I am looking at mobil 1 synthetic 75W-90.

Actually I use the full synthetic 75-140 wt lube in mine.  If you actually compare the thickness of the fluid the synthetic is thinner but better protection. I have talked to the dealer and they talked to the factory and said it was fine.  Just be sure and use a full syn lube

I have noticed some sounds when slowing down or backing up.  I am hoping it is normal like I read in prior posts.  Also seems like my brakes might be making a little noise too.

So do I have similar noises, has to be the cvt clutches working when slowing down and the engine braking system engaging. As far as brake noise, yes the rear disc can make noise when some dirt and crude builds up in there. I find a good power flush with the hose to remove the crude makes it quiet again for a short while until more crud gets in there. Many others with different experience the same issues with the exposed rear disc brake.
