Honda rider Off for $32 lesson

Son geared up and went for a ride a few weeks ago.
15 mins later he was back.
Low sided during a "too sporty" left turn at big intersection.
No injuries but bruised knee & ego.
The $150 Yako-something frame slider did its job.
A scrape there and then 2 bent shift linkage parts + L bar end scrape.
$32 to Honda for new parts. (did have to buy a heat gun to remove bar end)
Small scrape on leather of Hi Viz yellow ICON jacket and armored riding pants.
Said he was glad he was wearing those expensive gloves I bought him for Xmas...."they were the first things to hit the pavement!" Undamaged.
Lessons we discussed:
Get familiar with bike if its been awhile since riding.
Save sporty cornering for track days.
Less throttle when turning on cold tires.
Quick & speed are enemies of traction.
ATGATT is good. No excuses....

The sight of his pretty, mint, CB500X Honda sliding down the road without him.....was maybe the best teaching moment for him.

Good lesson and got off light. Riding with a group of Burgman riders a few years back and watched a rider in front of me go down on a left turn from a stop sign on a rural road. Everytime we'd come to a turn from a stop, he'd really goose it and therefore would cut wide and nearly go off the road. On one such turn he did and low sided in the bar ditch and the B400 fell on his leg. As a result he can barely walk today and can't work. Funny thing is that this guy was not a new rider but apparently had a bad habit of doing jack rabbit starts from stop.

So glad to know that he is okay. If you ride em' long enough, you're gonna go down, at some point, in time, When I first started riding, some 63 years ago, my grandfather, an old m/c rider from the early 1900's told me; "Boy, always keep a respect for your machine and don't get overly confident because if you do, then that;s when you can get into trouble." Those weren't his exact words, I'm sure, but I understood what he meant. I've always tried to remember that and I always throw in a little prayer for good measure. Has worked for me.
