Are the Downtown 300i's Wheels really made of Nylon?
« on: July 02, 2010, 06:06:00 PM »
Hi All
I'm considering upgrading to the Downtown 300i when it becomes available in the States but just noticed in the specs that the wheels are made of NYLON, does anyone know if this is true? If this is true I will have to look into a different model.

Thanks

Are you kidding?  ;D

If you are serious - nylon is one of the materials used for side walls of the tire.

Btw. even if the tires were made of paper, they can be replaced if you really like the vehicle.

No I'm not kidding, Wheels are not tires they are what the tire mounts too, AKA Rims.  ;)

Check out this link it indicates that the wheels/rims are made of nylon for the downtown 300 and if you check the Xciting, New Dink etc the wheels have an AL designation (Aluminum).

I checked it out, and it is quite funny. They should have someone proof read the specs, if they are calling the wheels tires, the scoots with the AL designation will have some interesting ride characteristics

Nylon ply radial tires, not nylon wheels, I assure you. There aren't any steel-belted radial tires for scooters of which I am aware, but there are many Nylon ply tires.

Someone pointed to some photos of the People GTi300 earlier. The tire sidewalls clearly had the word "Nylon" on them, as do a great many of the tires, today.

You are probably right, however even though Kymco produces what I feel is an excellent product their literature leaves little to be desired and makes me a little confused at times as is the case here. :-\  As wordslinger said something is getting lost in the translation.

The problem hear is that if I want one if/when they are available I wont have a chance to see one in person. I believe JPrestonian is right but was wondering if anyone had one they can confirm it. I've learned not to take anything for granted.

While Nylon is strong, it would never pass dot in the US. Can't be nylon wheels

My first two-wheeler was a 1960 Honda 250 Hawk and the owner's manual was in Engilsh with definite Japanese syntax. It was a hoot to read and decipher! Take the nylon wheels with a grain of salt from two different authors at the same company and no proof reader. The Taiwanese are great folks, too. Any country's "suits" are a pain.....

:) I'll assume it is a misprint and just order it when I can. Does anyone know when it will be available? I want this thing like yesterday, everything I read about it is all good.
