Electric Start

Hey guys.

My electric start NEVER starts my bike anymore. Won't even turn over or make a sound at all when engaging the electric start (its completely silent). Yes,  the battery is charged (brakes + blinkers work), and I have a brand new spark plug, but nothing. After 6-12 strikes with the kick start, it fires up and runs perfectly. But it never cranks with the electric start anymore. Any ideas?

Could be 1 of several items. Check the coil and the relay. If you're not hearing a clicking at all then the relay might be the culprit, it's right behind the coil up under the edge of the frame.

Have the battery load tested.  It takes much more juice to spin a starter motor than to power lights.

I have had TWO battery starter motors fail on my Kymco.

To locate starter components is very easy! Just follow the heavy battery cable to a small device attached to the frame which will have a total of two HEAVY wires attached to it as well as one or two thinner wires. This is the starter relay (coil).

Then trace the other second heavy cable to where it's destination and that should be the starter motor.

Here in VietNam we have Kymco Roadside Service and it only takes their mechanics 5 minutes to switch out the starter motor. (keep the old one, it has some interesting magnets buried inside).

This happened to my Agilty. Replacing the starter fixed the problem.

Jamez, sorry to hijack your thread! These deep south people around here always say "it won't crank" when they MEAN  it won't fire and run. Do you mean yours spins with the starter but won't fire and run?

Most scoots have electric starters and some of those also have a kick starter as well. What make, model and year is your scooter?

kymco agility 125 , year 2008

That has an electric starter motor and "clutch" as well as a kick starter pedal. Will your starter spin the engine when button is pushed?

it does but very weakly.

B - Whatever happened to Jamez?

i have replaced the batery not long ago, it's not the battery.
