Shed a little tear for me!

This morning as I pulled out of the alley and onto the street my top box fell off behind the scooter - stuff scattered all over.  I parked near the curb, on a slight slope and ran back to pick up my mess - using the side stand.  When I attempted to put the box back of the scooter it scooted forward and the stand folded up and down went the scooter.  Talk about heart breaking!!  Scratched about 6 body panels pretty good - cracked the one that has the turn signal bolted to it and scraped the turn signal and brake lever.  The box got some pretty good gouges in it too.  I called my insurance company just in case some how I might be miraculously covered - should have told the someone pushed it over - vandalism I think is covered, but I am afraid owner stupidity is not.  Lesson is be careful using side stand on sloped surfaces - go find a flat spot.  Lesson 2 don't attempt to do any work on the scooter when on side stand if it involves forward pressure!!

I Would never turn in a claim to my own insurance company for less than $1,000.00 damage . Over the next few years they will get whatever they pay and then some in increased charges . Cheaper to just pay it out of pocket .

I am guessing it will cost me about 3 to 400 dollars for new bits and pieces.  I would think it would cost way more than that to have them repainted/repaired.  A little red and black sharpy hid most of the damage nicely, but it will always gripe me to know its not pristine - the price of being too obsessive.

I see several p[laces online with the same schematics - anyone have suggestion about good source?

ispud -- Is your case by any chance a Shad, more than a year old?  They re-designed their latches, because of this.

My Shad 29 has popped off a half-dozen times. I gave up and will drill holes in it and make it a non-removable box while it's in the shop.

This is exactly what I did on my old Piaggio NRG and Piaggio Beverly.
On both scoots the top case fell off.
On People and Agility I am still waiting for that to happen to fix them for good.

Since your note about the side stand was posted under the People 250 category, I'm curious. I recently bought a 2006 People 250 and if I put the side stand down while the scooter is running, it automatically shuts down. ?

It's a safty feature.Imagine hitting a corner at speed with it down and lean right into it,It has taken down alot of riders on all sorts of bikes.Of corse it could be disabled

I never use mine. Never will. They're just too unstable, IMO.

I agree sold a couple of scoots to my sister and bro in law told them to never use the side stand and  they didn't listen both dropped there bikes before the day was over, so much that shiny new look

...removed my kickstand because it kept scraping the pavement on left hand turns...

...and once i had the same thing happen to my a50...tho not any damage, as it was in th' grass...
