help with steering on agility 125
« on: July 07, 2010, 09:49:52 AM »
Hi all

New to the site but already need a bit of advice.

I have bought my mates written off agility 125cc it appears to have been written off for the scrapes to the plastic ect but the handle bars and wheel are not inline.

How do I turn the handle bars to make them in line to the wheel?

Laso the front forks when you push them down make a squishy noise so I assume this may be need of oil change

How easy is it to do and what oil would I need.

Cheers in advance

Regards

Ben

Put the scooter on the center stand or have somebody sit on it and hold it upright.  Stand over the front wheel facing the front of the scooter with one foot on each side of the wheel.  Grab the handlegrips underhanded.  Squeeze your legs together to grip the front wheel -- be prepared to grip very hard.  Pull on whichever handlebar grip needs to come forward and push on the other one.  This will work as long as no metal is actually bent.

You may need to loosen the fork pinch bolts but usually this'll work without doing that.

Oh and a little squishy sound in the forks is normal.  Though you could make sure nobody has loosened the top fork caps.

right quick update

got the yoke sorted now, took it to the maintenance department at our casting foundry and asked if they could work their magic. 24hrs later job done or the price of a 4 pack!
all lloks good no stress ractures or stress in the part and everything straight.

got a new tax disc holder on its way

just need to weld a patch on the exhaust and job done all ready or a MOT

then i need to do my CBT, insure it (£112 quoted last night) and then get a suitable jacket to wear and jobs a goodun!

any ideas if i can use liquid steel to patch the exhaust?

I wouldn't like to use that yoke, after having been bent twice I would be concerned about it's strength, surely it would have been weakened. Try sourcing a second hand one you might be safer in the long run. Just my 2cents.

the maintenance department at our casting foundry

..i manage a maintenance department at an aluminum die casting facility...

..take the exhaust to your maintenance dept...they should be able to weld it..i did mine..hell, i cut it completely open and welded it back...

..but, i agree with sid...i believe that's a cast iron part...it "can" be heated and anealed..but it will never be as strong...

I have done a couple of these frame and fork straitinings,They are never the same lucky to get close. For the frame had to put in a gussets, the forks get close as you can and watch your tire wear any high speed wobble is a big concern.I personally did not think the streangth was a big issue as long as it's for cruising, the bikes are light and over built to some extent,if planning for race competition and grand canyon jumps  ;D  I'd replace.I tried to do repairs without heat it does weaken your metal.Nice to have the facilities though!
