How To Tell Difference Between Battery and CDI Problems?
« on: September 22, 2017, 07:36:05 PM »
Hey all

I've got a 06 People 50 2t that I'm having some electrical issues with. I'll describe the problems and if you pros could please diagnose it, it would be great!

Electric start doesnt work, so I kick start it everytime.

If I'm at a stoplight with the indicators on, the indicator will tick quicker and quicker until it stops all together. If I give it a little gas, the indicator goes back to its normal ticking speed.

I honestly dont know much about CDI's, so if anyone could tell me if my problems seem like a drained battery or CDI problem, that would be super helpful.

Thanks!

Welcome, Pepper!
You have more than one problem. Non-electric start could be more than battery. Connections, relay, bad switch or bad starter. Or a combination. The turn signals fast when you rev sounds pretty typical of the 50 cc bikes.

Your bike runs so the CDI is OK. Now, where do you wanna start?

I absolutely agree with Crossbolt if the scoot will run it is not the CDI. Either the battery is weak or the recharging system is not keeping up with usage. How old is your battery and is it holding it's charge? These 50cc bikes have very marginal charging systems.

Often scooters spend long periods of time parked, doing nothing and getting no maintenance.  It sounds to me like you should check and clean the ground wire at the battery, and the connections at the starter solenoid, and the ground wire where the engine and the battery are grounded to the frame.
