Just bought People GT300i
« on: September 23, 2017, 09:00:00 AM »
Keeping up with tradition to open this type of thread - http://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=554.msg179060#msg179060 - I am opening a new one.
Yesterday I bought People GT300i ABS Euro4 2017.

Here are a few pics.

I think I will have a lot to read about that scoot on this forum...

Woo-hoo, shiney new! Looks good in white! Hey! I just connected the dots: you JUST got your People 250S all squared away and THEN got the GTi300! Well, you won't be disappointed. This 300 will be everything the 250 was and more!

Rainy Sunday. Mod #1, had the same on P250S.  8)

Next will be Oxford Hothands, I have a set ready.

Considering that heated grips control switch will have to be placed on right rear view mirror, I already see a problem with mount for mobile phone I ordered from ebay.
Mirror stems are very short, and something will have to be sacrificed.

Continue talking to myself after 300 kms.

THE GOOD :)

1. ABS
2. Handling and heavy front end
3. Sound
4. I really like cargo hook being much lower than 250S's: most grocery bags are nice and secure on the floor and do not "hang"
5. Overall solid feeling
6. Engine power and torque

NEUTRAL  ;)

1. Consumption. Supposed to be 30 % lower, but first tank was exactly like my old P250S.
I guess it might improve when things settle.
2. Better seat (for the driver) but still worse than 2003. Beverly 200.
3. No more light under the seat - useless anyway
4. Caveman's instrument cluster. Why such a difference in respect to X-Town that has among the best gauge clusters...
5. Initially scoot does not pull, then it does, then again no, then it comes to life. I guess this is not that bad on slippery roads.

THE BAD :(

1. Weakish and squidgy rear brake, at least compared to P250S.
2. Radiator is at the bottom of the floor towards front fender, directly exposed to stones and chips being thrown by the wheel. Like somebody engineered this intentionally to see that thing punctured.
3. I really do not like battery and electronics under the floorboard - Agility is the same
4. I don't like that the tank is under the passenger's part of the seat, would prefer the battery to be there. There is 7 kg of fuel there, battery would be less than 3 thus improving stability slightly
5. There is nothing under the front plastic. They could have installed a shelf over entire width over the scooter, and not only left side. There is a plastic outline on the cowling on the right side that is not cut / there is no latch.

THE UGLY  >:(

1. Service intervals. 2000 kms or every 6 months, whichever comes first.
2. Oil filter + transmission oil change @ every service
3. Storage space, everybody and his granny already know that. How did they manage to lose all that space below the seat?
4. Cooling liquid expansion bottle in the floorboard, under the screw. Really, Kymco?
5. I cannot describe how much I hate permanent on lights. Considering that scooters have quite low capacity batteries, they could have installed also a circuit that delays turning on the lights AFTER the engine is running. This is coming from somebody who rides 365 days/year and starts scooter (I have no garage) that was maybe covered by snow during the night.

Can we get a night shot of the instrument cluster, to see what you're talking about?
Yeah, big wheel scoots lose in the under seat area...but you know that.
Like the color.....if they're all out of Ferrari red! :-)

Well, nothing much to see.

GT300i - http://viktormotosport.hr/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/ky2.jpg

X-Town 300i - http://www.dangelomoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC4293.jpg

Spot the difference?!?

Both scoots cost the same!!!

(of course, GT300i has different engine and + 6hp which is why I bought it and not X-Town...)

Yeah, big wheel scoots lose in the under seat area...but you know that.

Well, 250S had big wheels, and storage space under the seat for two open faced helmets!
Under 300's there is enough space only for a small generic fanny pack.

I think i saw somewhere you can buy this electric unit that delays lights coming on for the first 30sec, while the engine is warming up. It was a product for sym 400cc if I remember correctly. Maybe see auto electrician too.

Would this work for your phone mount?
(I'm trying to post a picture of mine, new here and on a phone may take a bit)

I can't believe that neither printed user manual I got with the scoot, nor online service manual show location of the fuse box.

As years go by, Kymco gets worse with their manuals.

Where is the fuse box located?

I want to install a delayer relay as I am more than just annoyed with "always on" lights during scooter cranking.
