My recent ride to Mount Mitchell
« on: October 16, 2017, 01:41:14 AM »
Yesterday morning I left home at 6 AM from Woodstock, Ga. and headed for Mount Mitchell, NC. I returned home after riding 545 miles at 7 PM. I rode around 150 miles on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I LOVE THAT ROAD! I saw a lot of beautiful scenery and it was a great short adventure. The Helix performed flawlessly the whole trip. Not a hint of trouble. I will attempt to upload some photos. I have given up for now uploading photos. Here's the easy way;

Beautiful pictures. I know you enjoyed that ride. I've made it myself, years ago on a silver wing. The Blue Ridge parkway was just made for bike riding, especially in the fall during the changing of the colors. Speaking of colors, how do you keep that Helix so shinny??

Hey Mac! I saw a SW parked at the lot at Mount Mitchell. I tried to spot the rider, but I couldn't. Incidentally that is the only other scooter I saw the whole day. As far as keeping the Helix shiny, I use Liquid Glass Auto Polish. The stuff has been around a long time and I put it on everything I can.

Me and our gang use to ride the BRP often and visited Mount Mitchell a few times. It is a wonderful place to ride.
I was on the BRP and the Linnville Viaduct the other day. In a cage this time with family.

You got lucky on the weather. We were there in the Fall a few years back and rode over Mt. Mitchell in a complete whiteout with cold rain on our SW. We joined a meet and greet in Maggie Valley and rained everyday. We still had fun though. Wish we could have had your view from the BRP. Nice Helix too. A respectable ride for a pretty Fall day. You must have an iron butt.

I did get lucky with the weather. Started out in the dark and hit a chilly fog on the way up, then things cleared nicely. No iron butt here, but the Helix seat and the Airhawk Cushion really made a big difference. Only started to get a little uncomfortable towards the last couple of hours but changing positions helped!

At first I wondered who Mitchell was and what he had done to deserved being mounted.

But then I clicked on the link (with some trepidation it has to be said)

Nice pix. Lovely scenery. Quirky scoot.

At first Quirky scoot.

That's  being kind.
Yamaha and Honda went nuts there for a short time.
Good scoots by all accounts, I've been told.
Nice pix. Thanks for posting.

Thanks Tom. Honda sold the Helix in the US market from 1986 to 2007. They are still being sold in Japan. I know they look funky, but they are one of the best scooters ever made. Versatile, reliable, plentiful parts, and super easy to maintain.
