Scoot STILL refuses to go past 70km/h??
« on: July 12, 2010, 05:02:37 PM »
Well I can say now I have done a lot to my bike now and after all this modding it still plainly refuses to go past the 70km/h - 43mph barrier, the power just cuts even on down hill as if there is another restriction.

I have:

Derestricted the variator - Got a Polini race one. It has 5.6g rollers which seem to run smooth and fine.

Derestricted the CDI - The violet/pink wire is cut (only one) and is tapped up.

It has been upjetted to an 82.

It has a new Leo Vince exhaust which yesterday I also removed the manifold cone from so the exhaust is now derestricted (I thought that doing this would solve the problem but it hasnt it still cus the power at 70km/h.

I cant think of anything else that would need doing to it  ???

Please help  ??? :-[

What does your plug look like An 82# seems small,A larger carb maybe,If cuts out down hill sound like cdi is not fully derestricted.I dont own this model just some thoughts

I too think it maybe the CDI not fully de-restricted. But I dont know how as its already had the pink/violet wire cut  ???

I may try a bigger jet.. an 85 is also recommended in these so I may try that.

But that shouldnt cut the power down hill should it? Having too small a jet?

Something else must be seriously restricting it still :-[

...wow dude!!

..you're running LEAN!!!!!

..you should be somewhere around 90-95.....

.aannd you need to put a free flow air filter on it in a really bad way...

..STOP RUNNING until you do some plug chops, and increase that main jet!!!!

..stand the chance of burning your piston with that 82 jet with a de-restricted aftermarket exhaust!!

Thats what i was thinking, and thought you only cut one wire, not both.Bigger jets and open air to make it work right, your in the danger zone!

...i can see the airbox sucking in at the edges  :o ...

..so, saying that, get rid of it!!

..you shouldn't really install an aftermarket exhaust until after, or as you install a free-flow filter...

...gotta suck if you plan to blow!!

..that's your next step, to get some air into your carb...

..you got a strange situation, that will be very difficult to make right without more air....

Thanks.. I have bought a race CDI for my Super 8 4 stroke which has the same connection as mine. It says it provides 18% more horsepower!  ;D So this maybe sort out my 70km/h barrier as it maybe the CDI that is still restricted somewhere so with a race derestricted one it shoul run around 50mph.

You still need to jet,Don't blow it up before all your parts arrive

I know I got an 85 jet.. the garage put in a 95 jet last time and apparently it ran worse in mid-range so they fitted an 82. So I shall try a 85. But I think it maybe the CDI that is restricting it...

..i think an 85 would still be lean....

..there's a BIG difference between 85 and 95....

..hell, theres a big difference between 82 and 85....

..you got two guys here telling you to open that jet, super....

....and i still say you are going to have to get rid of that stock airbox to get ANY increase in performance, since you already have the leo exhaust, and have modified it!...

..don't ruin your scoot by running lean...it will be very costly to repair....

I have got a K&N style cone air filter: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Scooter-Air-Filter-K-N-Style-Angled-Fit-Chrome-SMALL-/230485596587?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item35aa0319ab

But I dont know whether it will fit my carb boot properly.  ???

So what jet do you suggest then.. 87.5?.. 90?

..RC-2290 is the K&N part number for the filter you need..same as my agility504t...

..with the filter and the exhaust, i would start at 95, do plug chops and adjust from there.

Ok I bought one of these now.. £28 where I am.. with this installed, a 90 jet and a derestricted/unlimited Race CDI (Which I quote "On test machine 18% more horse power".)... what speed do you estimate I will get??
