its ok to commute to work but its hard to keep up with the sports bikes on runs!!
Also at 140kph its not alot as most japanese 250 scoots do that or even kymcos 300s. Made it pointless having the a 500.
BTW what is the fastest scooter ever made is it the gilera 800 gp?
I think the Aprillia SRV 850 is a little faster than the Gilera you mentioned at about 130 mph top speed.
Unfortunately it is not available in the USA because there is not a "market" for "really fast scooters". I am not sure if the Yamaha mentioned is available anywhere.
For me, The Kymco is a work horse bike that is doing decently. I want to get more than a top speed of 95 mph some day.
My next upgrade bike might be a super scooter similar to the Aprilia SRV 850 if I can find one available in the USA somewhere, or the Honda Vultus Nm4, which has a top speed of about 110 mph I think but has a lot more "overtaking" power since it has a few more horsepower than the xciting 500 and a 750cc engine to work with. I mention this Honda model because it has a fully automatic option as well as a gear shifting option. You choose how you want to ride on what day you want it, etc.
That's IF I can't find one of those super scooters that have a top speed of 125 mph or so!
One other thing to bear in mind is that our Kymco's are not speed bikes, they are performance bikes, "cruisers" if you will. Scooter cruisers? Scuisers?
They are meant for sustaining cruising speeds for long periods of time, not for constantly changing freeway speed (even though they do that just fine in most circumstances also).
One of the reasons I went with the xciting500 is that it had a little more power (in both HP and CC) than another bike I was considering, the Yamaha sr400 (completely different style bike, I know) and also several conveniences the other bike lacked.
Am I getting bitten by the upgrade bug? Sort of. But mainly because I am wanting "more". Basically I want complete control of being able to over-take somebody who is either tailgating or being a jerk on the freeway in some other capacity.
The Kymco see's me keeping up with everyone, and bypassing those who behave themselves. What I want is to bypass those who DON'T behave themselves too.
But that being said, The Kymco xciting is still a great bike as long as you can deal with the the fact that it is 38 HP with a 500cc engine and you can definitely cruise at 85, knock it up to 95 if you need for brief periods, but it won't madly accelerate you anywhere or prevent a jackass from tail-gating you on the freeway at 85 mph.
Actually I take that back. With this bike, your friend is going to be lane splitting and getting into spaces that jerk in the SUV cannot get into, combined with its modest speed and power.
The bike has power, for sure. But not sport bike power.
What I do is when that type of individual is giving me a hard time, I act smart. I slowly accelerate and lane split to the next lane in front of or between two cars there, either way the person in that huge truck is getting stuck before you do. Even if his top speed is 120 and yours is only 95.
You're still getting home way faster than he is because 1-He can't drive at 110 mph the entire distance home and 2-He simply cannot squeeze himself into the spaces you can.
All that said, be careful while executing any of this.
It's easy of course, but I still execute total caution and have super hero like peripheral vision.
