Downtown not starting
« on: December 03, 2017, 05:06:15 AM »
Today after filling up with gas could not start downtown 300i
Checked everything, brake switches good, fuses good, kick stand up, brand new battery, still, no start!
After new battery was installed lights come on but no cranks at all?
Had to get towed.
I’m thinking starter went bad? Any ideas out there?

Start/brake switch (es) on brake levers? Run/stop switch on right handlebar?

New battery fully charged, brake switches both working, engine stop switch in correct position,
Stand up, cluster panel lights up, fuses all good, can hear fuel pump running but will not crank..

Starter relay or solenoid?? Run a jumper from the battery side of the solenoid to the starter side. If the engine starts, with the ignition switch set on run, then  it's either the relay or solenoid, more than likely., but could be start switch or ignition switch. There is also a small wire from the ignition switch to the solenoid. Make sure it's connected and you get 12+DCV there when the starter button is pressed with switch set on run (Stand up)

If you hear a click when pressing the starter then the solenoid is fine. Wiggle the connecting wire to thr starter motor (just in front of the rear wheel cover) and try again. Also check the spark plug connection.

has your scooter miss firing and dieing at stops,.   it could be the reg. has killed the stator, and you have no spark,  or very week spark,  my dealer told me it was the CDI OR IT COULD BE THE HARNESS SHORTED OUT,  I changed them  and still no spark,  all that is left is the Reg. and the stator, I installed the REG. NO SPARK , I am waiting for warm weather to install the new stator ,

Well guys, I have the DT stored in my garage, battery tender hooked up, full tank of fuel. Started it up Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday, it wanted to start, but wouldn’t. The battery is 27 months old, so I put in a new battery, same thing. It sounds like it wants to start but then it sounds like the battery is getting weak. Any suggestions? Kick stand up, kill switch is off, dash lights are working normal, I can hear the fuel pump kick on, it cranks over, it just doesn’t start.

OK, Pip. Another whole different problem with a different side number on a DT300i. Starter spins engine, right? Does it sound different? Why start it Monday and Tuesday and then again on Wednesday?

A pair of jumper cables walks into a bar, bartender looks up and says "You're not thinking of starting something here are you?"  :)  I apologize. I just couldn't resist.
