regulator repeated failure
« on: December 24, 2017, 12:58:26 PM »
i wanna ask about an issue, i'm having a damaged regulator (rectifier) for the second time in less than one year, the first damaged one was the stock one after more than 2 years service (24,000 km) and the second less than 1 year later (about 36,000 km service)
the first and the second time i thought it was the battery but after measuring the diode by avometer, the regulator found to be the faulty one
i'm just wondering if this is normal that rate of damage for the regulator or is this related to any other factor in my electric circuit (i have changed the main headlight bulbs with LED type 40w each)
i found a video on youtube talking about changing the position of the regulator to have more air flow thus prevent its failure due to excess heat not dissipated
also would it be better to replace the damaged one with a regulator with bigger area (for example for the xciting 500) to give better heat dissipation?

Well, In Malaysia, we have the Downtown 200.

The 200s here do not have rectifier problems, the Xcit 400 has rectifier problems.

I am not sure if the 300 shares the rectifier with the 200 or 400 models, if it does with the 400, then perhaps it is a part issue.

Same part in nearly all models from DT200i to the 500's. Replace with Honda reg-rect made by Shindengen 232-12. Bigger cooling fins (heat sink) and better electronic components. Same plug connectors, same wire colors. This was all worked out and proven by Peter Kapitar in Hungary. Ebay replacements are as bad as Kymco reg-rect. Unless it is the Honda.

Thank you kneeslider for your feedback ; but we don't have here in Egypt DT 200 and never heard a problem with xciting 400

Do you have either Amazon.com  or ebay.com in Egypt? I did a search and Amazon does not list any location in Egypt. However, Germany has a huge location for European and Mediterranean distribution. Alibaba also has these things but may be third party availability. Ebay does have these but beware of cheaper copies and shipping points. Honda and Kymco part numbers are the same: 31600 with various suffix. Many ATVs &  motorcycles use this reg-rect with the same connectors.

it is -33 C here this morning it should warm up to -20 C by 1 oclock. , I might poke  my nose out for a while , for fresh air,  check the batterys in the garage, keep them at full charge so they don't freeze,

to much snow can I send some to you southeners so you can enjoy it too,.  would 4 or 5 feet be enough,

Getting up near 60 f here Sat. and Sun. but it won't help me. I'll probably be down til this time 2019.. I envy you guys who can ride, but hopefully I will ride again. Too much snow up there de dee. Better stay off the street until the thaw. At your age, if you go down you'll probably break something and old bones heal slow.
