Can't open the seat
« on: February 25, 2018, 02:54:33 AM »
When I push in the ignition key and turn left, I can't get the key go past 12 o'clock. It stops and won't go to 9 o'clock. I can't get the seat to open. Please advise.

I find mine to be sticky. Sometimes, to open the seat, push down on the seat at the same time turning key. I have to press the petrol(gas) cap down as well when turning the key. I do this instead of the hassle of stripping the bike to lubricate these cables.

Another suggestion: turn the key and also smack the seat hard at the rear with a closed fist. Then once opened adjust the cable and lube the latch.

Mine was frozen the other day, it sits outside in the rain sometimes.
Fixed it by heating the key a little with a lighter then with a squirt of  wd-40 in the lock until the key turned , then carefully pulling the seat up and down with the key turned until the seat lock released.....

You have to (well at least I do) turn the handle bars a tad further to the left after it's in the 9 o clock position and twist the (DO NOT FORCE) until it engages the cables and free the seat..

You only have to push the key when engaging steering lock, for seat just insert the key (as when turning ignition on) and turn left!

Yep - This worked for me. I was pressing the key in. Just need to insert the key and turn it left.

My 500 requires pushing the key in. I just went out to make sure after reading this. It will not unlock unless I plunge the key in as well. My seat has a latch on both sides, one of them was very touchy so I took it off.

Wymple has the answer: remove one latch. Two latches connected to the same pivot point will frequently have one latch too loose, the other too tight...so the tight one prevents the loose one from opening. Does one really need two latches to lock the seat down and prevent all those thieves from stealing your valuable stuff? I disconnected one latch on my Downtown 300i and solved the same problem you are having.

That designer has too much time on his hands. Or maybe his brother owns a latch factory?
