New (to me) 2009 PEOPLE 50 2t
« on: July 19, 2010, 10:40:45 PM »
Greetings! I just bought this scooter ($880.00) and have been riding it all day. Grin. I have never had a scoot before. It has 1,000 miles on it. At least I think the odometer is in miles(?)

In an older post, mention was made of buying an unrestricted CDI from a overseas manufacturer. Here is the phone number tele + (886) 02 2902 8588. I do not know how to dial this number. Please advise..

If I understand correctly, if I were to drill the airbox hole, I would need to change my main jet to a #85?

Is there an after market air filter for better performance?

At this point, I am completly ignorant regarding the mechanics, but am commited to learn.

If I understand correctly, with a two stroke it isn't neccesary to change the oil, just keep up the level? Is it better to run synthetic at this point or do you usually wait until more miles are on the engine?

Any advice is appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. You got a great little scoot there(I own three)the odomiter is in klm,so you only have about 610 miles on it,just perfect some one did the break in for ya!Takes about that long to loosen things up!First things first go to a quality synthetic 2t oil as soon as your oil tank gets low,I'm currently using motul, brand not as important as once you pick one stay with it.The kymco cobra cdi will work for you, little pricey, there may be a way to derestric the one you have I can't confirm it will work, havn't tried it.First confirm the size you have,If there is an #82 to an #85 the hole should be fine any smaller you will be to lean, everyone i've owened has had a different size from #68 to #85.The k/n 38mm to 43mm is the best filter you can get for this scoot in my opinion,if you do this a #95 to a #105 main will be needed. Its all pretty simple, the 2008 and on stock pipes are chocked down quite a bit,so I would be looking at a tenogas pipe when you order that filter,or at least a 2004 or older stock pipe if availible,If you want to stay on the quiet side they do make an opend up version the is quieter, but can get the race pipe for a few bucks more, the k/n may not work well with your stock pipe I never tried, had other pipes avalible.Good luck youl love the scoot,Beware modding is addictive!  ;)

Thanks Art. When I get the time I'll try to understand what this all means. I'd like to change the exhaust out and hopefully get the balance  between loudness and increased power. I can see how the mods become habit-forming.

I would say just do the the air box and up jet but,I know that newer pipe is a problem if you go to a k/n filter and bigger jet it might be manageable but you'll be losing potential because of the pipe,If you don't mind the noise (I like it)others do hear me comming! Not for every one though they do have a quieted race sport pipe but quiet means power is being robbed. There is no oil to change for the motor, but there is for the tranny It's a small amount but very important,I use a gear oil 85wt. and it only takes a few ounces, how much is still being debated I fill till it reaches the bottem of the fill hole.I think synthtic is a must specialy if going to mod,any thing to give you a little better heat dissapation and lubrication go for it.The oil resivor will last for over 15 20 tanks of fuel(estimated)I would not top it off you do have a low oil light When that stays on you need to fill soon. The less you open it the better your chances of not contaminating it as soon as you run till the light stays on I would go to synthetic(quality oil that you can get localy)or buy it by the gallon it is cheaper and has a shelf life of twinkies  :D  P.s.nice price on the scoot I,m trying to sale a 2005 with 800 miles on it for more than that It does have the better old pipe and the upjet and hole mod goes a little over 50.

About the final drive oil , it takes .18 liters only . I filled mine untill it flowed back out of the fill hole and blew out the gasket . Walmart sells a large syringe that makes the filling job a lot easier . Enjoy your new scoot . Good luck .
