Stig finally shops insurance
« on: April 21, 2018, 08:54:40 PM »
For a couple of decades have used an old schoolmate of my wife's as our insurance agent. Plus he lives just around the corner - so we received good & personal attention with our enquiries.
But he retired recently.
Rec'd my new bill for a year's coverage on my 5 yr old LIKE200i.

I went online with Progressive to check rates - and bought better coverage at a price 60% lower than my previous premium.
I have Progressive on my truck (after using their plug-in thing) and on the Piaggio. Adding the Kymco also lowered the Piaggio premium.

Been meaning to recheck ins. rates for years......

Great thing about a scooter, insurance cost is so much cheaper than a car.

My wife bought me AAA, after my $250 five mile tow when I ran over some metal and flattened my Forza tire a few years ago.
Plus, I got road-side assistance with the insurance.

You're obviously not in Canada; in some cases, scooters cost more!

I am always jealous of those that get low cost insurance. Here, in the land of the hit and run, insurance costs get ridiculous. I was surprised at the cost of insurance for the scooters. I ended up changing insurance companies and got all of my vehicles under the same policy through AAA. That saved me about $800.00 per year. Progressive did lower the scooter policy for the renewal before I dropped them, but it was still high. (to me)

As with most things - if you're willing to shop around, there's almost always a better ptice out there.
Or, better yet - tell them you're  cancelling and moving to another provider. Amazingly - they'll discover a whole new price for you!!

AAA has road side assistance for your PTW, but you have to buy the RV roadside assistance plan, but you get tons of perks. For my wife and I it cost $197 annually for the plan. My HOG membership also includes roadside assistance, but way more limited vs the AAA plan.

No, Australia.  Surprising to hear that, are they expensive Maxi scooters that they charge more for?

I am surprised that Flo (Progressive) gave you such a reduction. She is a Standard plan company where Allstate and State Farm are Mutual companies offering rates lower than Standard especially if you bundle the house, cars scoots and boats.

I've always gone the basic liability option. This last time I didn't even shop around -- Progressive wanted $75 for the year I think, and that sounded about right.

For car insurance, I ended up switching recently when I moved. Liability insurance went from about $80/month to $40. This taught me it's worth checking every so often.
