Lights DIM
« on: May 07, 2018, 01:29:53 PM »
New 2013 S8 150.... Head lights are dim. Sometimes they brighten to acceptable brightness then are dim on both Bright and Dim position. Haven't been able to see the tail light when the lights brighten because it is rare and brief, usually when first started. Battery is new as is the bike and fully charged.
P.S. Love this little scoot. Runs great and fun to run around town.
Thank for any assistance!!!!

WAIT WAIT... I may be an idiot..... A better search by me seems to show that at idle, the lights will DIM..... I have not taken the bike out at night and revved it up past idle. Only checked in the garage. DUH!

IT IS CONFIRMED....... I am an Idiot!!!! I don't understand their thinking on this as I drive at 20mph in town and they are Dim. I guess at that speed it won't hurt too bad if I run into something I can't see.

Good post! You are not an idiot or we are ALL idiots! We all have missed a piece of logic. Your bike runs the headlight of the alternator not the battery so it is rpm sensitive. There is a headlight controller that fails early in the bikes life that most people bypass. Several posts on that thing somewhere on here.....

I don't think your headlight dimming at low speeds/low RPM is normal on a 150ccm scooter. I would look into it a bit more.
Could be a regulator/rectifier, wiring, or stator/magneto issue or at least a battery issue.

Check you battery voltage at idle, and at higher RPM.

It's not unusual if it's AC lighting - though I agree it's far from ideal.

How's the battery? Old or new? Start strongly?

I doubt it too on a 150, but it's always worth asking. Common on the 50cc stuff

Good info folks.... I also don't think AC is in the equation. I have dug around the forum and see the info on bypassing the control for this buggaboo. I will try that if I run into too many objects. Carrying a flashlight and bandages for the time being.
Thanks to all.
