2005 People 50 2T Mods
« on: July 27, 2010, 09:04:40 PM »
Hello-

I bought a 2005 KYMCO People 50 2t.  The bike came semi de-restricted.  The Variatior washer was removed.

I was able to de restrict the CDI unit by unplugging the green wires at the base of the unit.  2 seconds.

The bike went from 43 to 45 on flats, and 50 easy on downhill (MPH).

I added a Leo Vince TT pipe this am.   The pipe also came restricted at the point of connection to the cylinder head.  I removed the cone from the pipe by breaking the weld with a screwdriver, and using a dremel type stone bit in my drill to remove the chunks of weld from the inside of the pipe.

Once I got the cone off- I was able to install the pipe.

The stock rollers were too heavy- and the bike had a real hard time getting to speed- but once the powerband kicked in around 35, it pulled well up to 50.
I got scared and let off the throttle- plus the motor was SCREAMING. It's probably good for 55 with that set up.

Since I'm not looking for TOP END speed, I replaced the rollers with some supplied with the pipe= I think they were 5.7 g (I'll have to check the baggie).

The bike pulls hard to 45mph, and had plenty of acceleration.

Next I need to check the jetting by inspecting the plug and determine if I need to fatten it up or not.

No mods to the air box yet.  That is next.

..you're on the right track!!..and definately keep an eye on that plug...

..opening up the air, and a larger diameter main jet will put you over 60 mph!!

..to reduce rpms at top speed, you might want to experiment with a SLIGHTLY longer drive belt...

..i started that process before my ppl stopped running..but i've continued with my agility, which uses the same OEM belt..

..i'm loving the 729-18-30 belt on my guilty..

..keep posting and Welcome to th' Forum!!

Sounds good you will be going back to some heavier rollers if you open the airbox and get your jets straight. You are going to want around a #95 main if you get all that done, should be 55+.  Welcome to the forum.

Thanks guys for all the useful input.

I pulled the main and pilot jets out last night, can't read the Main Jet size, so I'm going to take it into our local shop and see if they can get me sorted out with some proper jetting.

Does anyone have a modification that I can do to the stock airbox.  I'd like to keep the bike quiet- intake noise from a cone filter can get pretty loud!

If I leave the stock airbox does anyone have a suggestion for a main and pilot jet combo considering I am using the unrestricted pipe.

OR

Any suggestions to mod the stock airbox, and jetting combos for that?

Once I get that sorted out, I'll have to go back to tinkering with the roller weights.

Cheers-

..art drills holes in the airbox...not sure exactly where...

..you will not need to change the pilot jet..only the main..

..idle mix adjustments can get you where you need to be without changing the pilot jet..

Ok- great.

I ordered up an #85 main jet.  I'll leave the pilot as is for now.

I'm going to have to wait until that bigger main jet comes in before I start messing with the airbox, I don't want to lean it out too much!

Other than that, I'm putting it back together, and going to ride it.

BTW- I popped the Spark plug out when I got home last night to take a look- looked nice and tan, no evidence of a lean condition.  This was not done with a throttle chop- just wanted to eyeball it.  Should I be concerned about a lean condition with the addition of the pipe?

Cheers-

..it's always the possibility..

..put you a new plug in there and see what it does...

..some of us use torch tip cleaners to open the diameter of the main jet..and solder to melt them back if we go to far...

..i'll probably never need to buy another jet..lol...

You  are correct 2005 and later are more restricted 2008 to present realy restricted!!!  I understand the noise concerns but you are kinda handcuffing your self with the airbox.  I think the #85 main will be about right as is. I would put at least one hole in the outer cover of the airbox. I put it to the front behind the little flare, about 1\4 inch, this will let it breath allot better and stay on the quiet side. You may want to experiment with some more holes You can always tape them up if  the sound level gets to high.

..i would reckon that if you drill holes in the bottom of the box, then the "noise"..(I LIKE NOISE)..would not be as noticeable...

Once the # 85 shows up, I'll pop a couple holes in the airbox and see what happens. Is there a proven diameter that gives better flow, without over doing it?

Trying to ride stealth by keeping the noise down.

You don't realize how much noise intake cones add to the dB level!

I like my neighbors, and they like me, and I want to keep it that way.....

One 1\4 hole has been perfect for the almost stock set up. Havn't tried any more because all my others are way beyond stock!!!
