Ok, so this is what's happening:
Sometimes when I take off from the lights, I accelerate but the scooter simply doesn't move at normal speed, it gets really slow and I get the sensation that I'm taking off in top gear. Also, when this happens, I feel like the bike is not revving high enough as it usually revs when taking off normal.
I mention this to mate and he suggested that a common problem with scooters is "belts slipping", and that it was an easy fix. I'm hoping that it is only that, and I decided to post this in an effort to get some feedback in the chance that someone on this forum has had the same problem.
This issue is occurring intermittently, I'd say 2 or 3 times out of 10 times.
Any feedback would be valued.
William

Hi William,

How old's the bike? How many miles?

Sounds to me like your rollers may be worn. They're extremely cheap to replace. The tool to get the variator off is about £20 to buy but will still save you a fortune even if you use it only once.

Hey Viper, thanks for feedback.
The bike is a 2008 model and has 9000kms on it.
If rollers are faulty, is it common for them to play up intermittently?
I keep thinking in terms of a clutch or a gearbox, or pretty much anything really...if it's worn, it will malfunction all the time....rather than on and off...hope I'm making sense :)
Anyhow, I will investigate more and will follow up with an update once we find problem.
Thank You again.
William

I would really strongly think it is rollers. Rollers with with a flat spot give the feeling you are trying to pull away in too high a gear. 9000KM is about right to wear the original set out. If the belt were slipping, it would give much more erratic behaviour pulling away.

It's not a same-every-time kind of issue, so that fits, and it's dirt cheap to fix.

Does it maybe feel like the clutch is not engaging?

That is not uncommon not hard to fix and would cause slowness off the line.

Tromper:
It feels like I'm in top gear when taking off....also...scooter appears to be revving less....
I noticed that it happens about 5-8 minutes after I start riding...it's an intermittent problem...we took the cover off yesterday and found that the rollers were good...but the belt had a few fatigue spots and we are in the process of finding the right belt now...
Thanks for feedback

Viper254:
Checked the rollers yesterday, they look fine, no flat spots at all.
As mentioned in my reply to Tromper, we are replacing the belt once I find the right size! I've posted a new topic regarding this..
Thanks,
William
