Lights DIM I mean REALLY DIM like OFF!!!!
« on: May 26, 2018, 09:26:33 PM »
Previous post by me complained about lights Dim when at Idle. I didn't know this was a "feature" on my 2013 S8-150. Anyway I must have offended the photon gods and now I have NO lights. I have scanned this subject and found lots of stuff concerning the Light control module. I can't seem to see a consensus on a fix.
I see stuff about bypassing the module but then I see fuse issues, and something about diodes, etc.  I am very competent at doing electrical things, so bypassing/modifying is Ok if that is what this takes to fix. This scooter is very new , 170 miles on it, but the nearest dealer is over 100 mile away. I ain't riding this scooter 100 miles ( I would poop like a waffled potato chip ).  SO I would like to have someone tell me what the heck to do. Pretty please!!!!

New with only 170 miles? Borrow or rent a trailer and tie downs and drag it to that dealer 100 miles away. Safety issue: he has to fix it. Plan B, since you are handy with electrical, call him up with the symptoms and ask about troubleshooting it. Go step by step and maybe he will be able to determine what parts to throw at it. Keep us posted. We will have more inputs as this drama unfolds! This 100 mile away dealer, you buy the bike there?

No I found this new bike at a Kawasaki dealer about 250 miles from me. He must have been a dealer at one time, this was a NOS one that he sold for $1300. Any way I will make the call you suggested. This seems to be a continuing problem? There seems to be lots of lighting complaints. Thank you.

Any current Kymco dealer should make good on warranty. There are still a couple of aces if you find one that doesn'T wanna play.

Crossbolt,  I did as you suggested and loaded the scooter up, drove 120 miles, had a nice lunch, unloaded the scooter at the dealer. The tech and I talked about the problem then I started the thing and VIOLA! Lights!!! We looked at each other for a bit, then he helped me loaded it back up. He did say that they have had issues with the light controller, and if I continue to have problems, call him and he will o :order a new one for me. My thinking is that if the first one is bad, the next one can't be much better unless they have made changes since 2013. Maybe i should by-pass the darn thing and be done with it. Any thoughts?

Of course I have some thoughts! First, I have no personal experience with this bike. Second, what I think I know came from this forum from the guys who actually twisted the wrenches and found out. The conclusion is to bypass the headlight controller. There is a thread on here with pictures that show how to do it. His opinion was the controller is more trouble than worth. Now it is up to you. Have fun!

I had a local shop bypass the light controller on my Super 8.  No problems with it since.  I think they charged me around 35 bucks to do it.
