Electrical Problems on my 2012 Super 8 150
« on: June 04, 2018, 02:09:09 PM »
Hi everybody,

Newbie here.  I've had my Super 8 150 for nearly a couple years now, and I love it.  It has developed some confounding electrical problems that are keeping me from riding.  Here's the full story, then I'll get to current symptoms.

About a month ago, I noticed that the scoot's battery was having a hard time starting it up.  I put my battery tender on, and then that afternoon it had no trouble firing up a few times.  That night, a cool night, I fired it up and took off.  I only made it about a block, when it started falling on it's face at full throttle.  It was behaving kind of like it had a dirty carb.  I figured it just needed to warm up some more, and pressed on.  A few blocks later, it died on me and wouldn't refire.  Fortunately I was still really close to home, so I walked back and picked up my truck to drag the wounded beast home.

I ordered a new battery the next day, and installed it when it arrived.  Here's where it gets weird.  When I hooked the battery up, the headlights went on.  The key wasn't even in the ignition.  I tried putting the key in, to see what would happen.  The headlights stayed on, but everything else was dead.

I did some research and asked around, and everybody seemed to think the ignition switch was bad.  It took me some time to track one down, but I found a great parts ordering website at worldofpowersports.com.  Anyways, it arrived this weekend, and yesterday I installed it.  The same problem persists.  When I hook the battery up, the headlights go on, and everything else is dead.

My next best guess is the lighting control module I found on the wiring diagram.  Hopefully it's not just some random short in the wiring harness somewhere.

Does anybody have any other ideas?  Also, where physically is the wiring control module?  I couldn't find anything about it in the service manual.

Thanks!

We have several Super 8 experts here so wait for their confimation. The light control module is under the front plastic pretty close to the headlight. This is from other posts about that troublesome module. There is even a post about bypassing it. Pardon if this question insults your intelligence but did you get the correct polarity when you hooked up the new battery?

My regulator/rectifier failed (again) last summer, so I ordered a non OEM from eBay.
It looked almost identical to the original, all the right color wires on the right place on the connector, but when I connected it the headlight (and I think the rear light, but not sure anymore) lit up even though there was no key in the ignition.
I quickly disconnected it, returned it to the seller and bought a original Kymco R/R.

Not quite like your problem but take a look at your R/R.

If it's faulty there is a good chance you will smell burnt plastic, and even see the place where it shorted out.

Electrical help needed:
Im installing a back up camera with an aftermarket radio in my 02 escape. I have the power source and ground for the camera wired into my drivers back up light so it only comes on when in reverse as it should. It should send power to the camera and the reverse wire for my head unit.
My problem.. when I plug the camera in, my back up lights comes on and stays on and Im getting constant voltage to my reverse signal wire to the head unit even with the key out of the car.
I can unplug the camera and everything works as it should. I had a completely different camera and tried it and it does the same thing so its gotta be a wiring issue. I can only think its because of the ground I have going from the camera to the ground of the back up light.
What do you guys think ?

By the way, I found used 1995 Mazda Mx-6 Base  and thanks Vinchain http://vinchain.io/report/check vehicle history report service, I noticed that this vehicle is with side  damage. Hope someone finds them useful, they are better than other vin number repositories in my opinion.
