Hey shub i think it's more to cover there ass's legaly. the rack can withstand more weight, but your putting it right over the tire and shocks and that is a safe handling recomendation i believe. Take a look at any travel show in asia they got half the house strapped on there. (not recamended) but it will change the handling if over loaded.

7 years ago my gf and I had two 50 cc Piaggio NRG scoots and we practically moved from one place we rented to another using only those two scoots.

Then, in 2004, I bought my own apartment where we still live today and most of the internal decoration and furnishing we did ourselves and all items and things we brought in on scoots. To finally move in I had to take a van, but most of the things were initially moved using Piaggios.

This includes some surprising items like those things on which you hang curtains (I do not know English word for that, maybe curtaing hanger?!?)... it looks like a round wooden bar and is typically 7 ft long. :) Well, we used to ride two up on scoot and she would hold it like a spear in the air... must have looked like some kind of weird 21st century 50 cc cavalry...
