Security - New to forum

Hey all, I am new to the forum. I am a proud new owner of the People 300, and looking to secure it. I am getting a Dowco cover and a Dowco Cover Alarm. I am reading that I should get a disc lock? Is that right? Any brands to recommend? (Buying from revzilla). Thank you!

Covered parking garage?
Parked on porch at home, or in your garage?
Some owners have to park on sidewalk of a major city, in front of their apartments.

I will have four parking situations:

* Overnight - in front of my house, on public streets, in an urban setting

* During the day - near my workplace and gym, on public streets, in an urban setting

* During the day/evenings - in front of my restaurant workplace, in an urban setting

* During the day/evenings - for food deliveries (of 5-10 minutes), in an urban/suburban setting

 First - welcome to the forum ! Glad you joined us!
OK,  let's hope you're not talking London here (in which case, don't fall in love with this scooter!)

We can offer lots of ideas ....but I  would also have a chat with your local scooter/motorcycle shop to see what is working for local owners. And, what has not!
Fixing your scooter to a solid object is best, with a locked cover over it, and some sort of motion alarm which can also page you.
Fancy "Piaggio", or worse - "Vespa" logo'd covers are the worst form of advertising a nice scooter beneath!
Lots of options...but for every one there is a guy who can defeat it in many cities.

Folks....give this person some more ideas, please.

Stig is right about London - it's a bit Wild West with scooters there.

My experience (scooter parked in public car park 400 yards from house for a few years, then in the garden after that) is that the most important theft deterrent is a scruffy, non-descript cover. A bit of dirty green canvas doesn't catch the eye in the same way that an exposed bike does, with a lot of theft/vandalism being opportunist.

I've always taken the view that if somebody wants it, they'll have it; all I can do is make it awkward for them. To that end, I have a disc lock and an old yellow wheel clamp that I think was for a caravan originally. Neither's impregnable but they should slow a thief down enough so that they might bottle it or be disturbed.

There are some cool devices available nowadays that hold your brake lever in place in the compressed position to the handle; that could be worth a look as well.

In your situation, I'd be tempted to go over the top rather than less.

Any recommendations on a compatible disc alarm? I'm reading about Abus products, and they talk about making sure they fit your particular bike, but so far, can't find anything about size fits.

You got to make sure locking bolt is small enough to pass thru slots in the brake rotor

I use an alarmed disk lock in NYC, just make sure it is a good size for your Peoples' disk.  First one I bought was a real pain to get on and off my Like, but you have larger wheels so it might not be as much of a factor.

Also, note on your cover, while a good theft deterrent, be very aware of the wind, strong wind will blow your scooter over.  It's happened to me and all my street parking scooter friends.  It's really sad to wake up to your scooter on it's side just laying on the street and often with the cover blow away.

One other thing you might consider...
A wired-in GPS tracking device. Won't stop anyone from taking your wheels, but it sure will help the cops when you show them on your phone exactly where your bike is, and then ask them to go get it.
